So RTÉ’s mojocon are running this competition where you have to do a news-report using exclusively a mobile device.I thought I’d send something in, I call it: “The News, in Selfies.”.I strongly believe selfie sticks should be used by journalists. So in that regard, I’d be really interested in hearing what you think.
Be nice.

You might have to design an automatic selfie stick which could be attached to the journalist, would focus in on the journalist and leave both their hands free to (a) focus on what they’re reporting (b) hold a piece of paper which they often need to cite notes or statements (c) not be distracted from what’s going around them (d) not be distracted by holding the selfie stick.
I guess you’re talking about a stick which could attach to a “belt” (it would need to be a more substantial attachment to your body though, more like a bustle or midriff armoury) with some steadycam technology to soften the effects of movement.
I’d say it would need to go over the person’s head like an upside down U and then hang suspended in front of their face, but then you’d have to cover the pole with some kind of green-screen and key it out.
Such a thing already exists it is mostly used for those crazy running shots in movies like requiem for a dream.
like an opti-grab but for selfies..

I think the most appropriate design would be a flexible selfie stick that would loosely loop around the neck and become tighter every time you take a picture.
Or coil itself around the user’s torso, and insert itself into the anus with a drilling motion
Shush, you’ll spoil Clamper’s Ma’s birthday present.
The robots have you covered:

Vox Pops yes, news no.
Couldn’t watch the video. The stills were bad enough.
Me too.
Why scar the eyes further when there are people here to do that.
1.10 Dat tache.
That is all.
Sticks for Irish journalists:
Irish Times- a cane
Indo- a match
Only an idiot would think its a good idea to do the news on selfie sticks. Any idiot can film events on their phone its a journalist job to give us the clearest picture of whats going on.
Good stuff Laura, that RTE news correspondent voice is coming along nicely :-)
You’re cruel.
Oh come on, tell me you werent thinking the same thing.
It is not a voice for radio/tv but what do I know.
Hey now, no need for that champ. Never stopped you before ;-)
Terrible idea – I worked for SkyNews when they introduced the “reporter does all, camera, sound” – it was quickly aborted because it was horrible quality and impossibly difficult for the reporter.
Horse poo.
Selfie sticks will form the bonfire around the stake upon which I am going to burn these people for being gobshites of the highest order.
Citizen journalism and tweets, that’s a good idea for social progress, considering it worked oh so well in the Arab world a few years ago. Oh wait, it didn’t, it just lead to people who didn’t know much expressing an opinion on things they knew nothing about.
I strongly believe selfie sticks should be …
Hmm. You said be nice. I can’t so I’ll stop.
I love the posterboy for giving up smoking. HSE should hire him to go around schools.
59 seconds into the video, she’s using an iPad. There’s always one…
