The first deadline to register for Irish Water was October 31, last year.
This was extended until November 30.
Which was extended until February 2.
But don’t panic
Paul Melia, in the Irish Independent, reports:
“Householders have been given until the end of the year to register their details with Irish Water and avoid paying an annual standard charge of €260 and losing their “free” child allowances.”
“The water regulator says anyone who registers by the end of December 2015 will receive their full entitlement of allowances, but that those who delay until next year will be penalised.”

Denis O’Brien, Fine Gael And The Water Meter Deal

Irish Water can feck off. Denis O’Brien can feck off. The Blueshirts and Lady Burton can feck off.
Very low-key announcement! Indo had a story the app’s front page this morning but it was dropped fairly quickly. Maybe they’ve run out of steam. I’ve already got my coat.
It’s all water under the bridge
Flushing it out until before next GE. Wouldn’t want to sway any floating voters by dousing them with fines before then.
I’ll get my boat.
They’re a right shower
Why would any sane person sign up to this, ignore any letter sent to your home that is addressed to “the occupant” of the house and you’ll be grand
Because my landlord made me
He can’t make you pay though.
Why ain’t this reported? http://directdemocracyireland.ie/household-charge-defeated-in-court/
Interesting development. I wonder if it actually has any merit as a test case, or are there aspects or material facts unreported?
I think this may be a case for Legal Coffee Drinker
Last bit:
“It is not a legal precedent as such because there was no order by the judge as the case was withdrawn. Neither does it prove the Charge is unconstitutional because only the Supreme Court can make that judgement.”
Lets assume for a sec that this rumbles on to after the bloodbath election.
what exactly do people think is going to happen then?
That Irish Water would be no more, that country councils resume their old roles?
Serious question.
Block metering and pressure tests would find the leaks. The meters can go the way of the E voting machines for all i care. PAC investigation into the every penny spent on IW etc. Maybe a tribunal into Dinny and Phil.
Local council workers know their areas. The vast sums spent on IW could have gone a long way to fixing the problems first. Few mill will be saved by closing IW down. Immediate stop of installation could safe a couple hundred million. If water is so valuable why not tie it with AIB in a North Dakota model of publicly owned bank. Or if there is so much oil/gas etc off the coast why not tie it to that.
Increase taxes on those over 120k, bring in financial transaction tax, drop property tax 15% across the board and freeze it for 5 years, then use a percentage to fund the water infrastructure upgrade.
That Irish Water would be no more, that country councils resume their old roles?
Yes
Because that system worked a charm, didn’t it? Only 60% of water lost through poor maintenance and a total lack of accountability!
It’s 60% now?
Sure, let’s say it was 70%
60% now? IrishGravy/FG on message said 40%. Either way how did they quantify how much they are losing? Serious question
Here’s what will happen. Water will be funded from central taxation. Tierney will pocket a huge pension. arnett will go back to rps. irish water will continue with a new board made up of old faces (alan dukes is in the market). the company will continue quietly.
Oh thank god. Panic was setting in alright.
Not
Any morons that have bought the freemen snake oil arguments and still aren’t registering will fall in line eventually, just like they did with the property tax and the bin charges. To believe otherwise is pie in the sky, shinner delusion.
Nobody had a choice with property tax…once it went to revenue to collect it was game over, deducted at source from wages, social welfare, added onto property when selling…so your point that people will toe the line for IW is void.
Back to you Atlas.You ass
Irish Water its got more dead lines than you will find in Africa
