Hogan is kicking back in his cushy EU number now, any sort of involvement in this scenario is pretty far from his mind, or remit.

I’d imagine that this is only going to get worse. A lot of the more working class areas in Dublin still haven’t had meters installed……that’ll be “fun” when they do.

I am not a fan of FG or Labour or any party for that matter but an elected government has raised a tax. If you do not like it vote for a party against it and hope they get elected.

At lunch I walk by dumbasses protesting while I go back to work paying taxes that these guys are proud not to pay. It is BS and I hope they get humiliated and shown to be the wasters that they are. Otherwise we are encouraging others to do the same.

That’s such a naive viewpoint. Once a tax is implemented in Ireland it doesn’t dropped once another party gets in.

Not true, taxes have been repealed before, but if you believe that to be the case, then why protest? What are they actually trying to achieve? I think a lot of them are happy to feel a sense of purpose in their lives.

@Atticus…. hang on, the cycle of govts has usually been along the lines of, FG get in and raise taxes; FF promise to give them away and then come back in until the place is on its knees; then the cycle starts again….

It’s been the way since the start :)

    1. How many residents are actually part of the protest?
    2. Why would 12 openly admit they will pay when the rest say no?
    3. How do all remaining 76 houses not work and have time for this?
    4. When can we stop this crap? NO government will remove Irish water, no matter what false promises they are throwing out there.

On that note, if I do consent to a water meter, what right do my neighbors have to block that work? Serious question…

      1. pedeyw

Interesting question but in this case Irish Water refused to limit installations to those 12 houses. So you could turn the question around and ask do you have the right to force others, against their consent, to have meters installed because you’re okay with it? I don’t know.

      1. Suppose you should look it up.
      2. Freedom to do so?
      3. If you felt strongly enough about something, wouldn’t you make time for a protest if you felt it could make a difference?
      4. Oh great Oracle, please do tell us more.

3 What job are you in that people don’t show up for work when they have some cause they “feel strongly enough about”.

Teachers? Summertime? People on holidays? Took a day off work? shift worker? Family home where 1 person works and earns enough to allow the other not to? (rare I know)

Yeah! Good work keeping IW on the government balance sheet which means there’s ~500m euro less to spend on hospitals, schools, homelessness and other public services!

Because they don’t want to pay under 100 euro a year. Brilliant.
