The Daily Mail are experts on Vatican affairs now? Oh wait, stoking up division might be a much better way of selling advertising.

The liberal vs. conservative debate was of relevance (to mass media anyway) around the time Ratzinger was elected. Even the most conservative of bishop would bide his time, use his office and influence from within. Resigning (what, fall into your grave?) over a very popular guy just makes you look like a bitter nut job.

I like Pope Francis. And BXVI. And JPII. They all bring hope to the world and are amazing leaders.
