This afternoon
Leinster House, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
Sinn Féin launches a General Election 2016 billboard attacking Fine Gael’s spending plans.
They argue that the €12.7bn of available ‘fiscal space’ does not allow for “demographic pressures, public sector wage increases and capital spend”.
Leaving the real amount of space at a snug €8.6bn.
Fight, etc.
Second pic from left Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams, Councillor Micheal Mac Donncha, Pearse Doherty TD, Senator Kathryn Reilly and Spokesperson for Social Protection Aengus O Snodaigh.

Looks like a calculator bomb did the damage.
Must have been the airborne division…
Why don’t they give them some money from the Northern Irish Bank job to help them balance their books.
Careful now.
Parties that rob money FROM banks could sound like a big improvement on the parties that rob us FOR banks ;o)
they don’t know the number that were in the armed wing of their party
Nasty kerning.
Or just poor Bill Posting?
If Gerry’s doing a video, I’m voting Shinner. He’ll “disappear” portrait mode video criminals.
Hahahahahaha the paedo protecting people
Wouldn’t happen to a Bishop they said, left in his seat after hiding paedos and then shuffling them around the country…..
But it did happen…. for Gerry, Mary Lou and Pearse…..
don’t want to burst your bubble there clamps, but FF made you pay for the redress scheme and allowed the church to turn its own assets into an untouchable trust fund. this government has produced 2 reports that effectively whitewash over the systematic abuse in our care homes and laundries. there is no branch of political representation that hasn’t protected abusers of all shades.
None so directly as are Jarry.
and that excuses FF, FG and LAB?
all the time the victims are denied justice and resolution and all they ever get from any elected representative is mudslinging and hypocrisy.
Did FF, FG or Lab have a policy of moving child abusers around the country rather than reporting them, thu sleaving them free to abuse again like SF did?
i would argue that yes they did, by more slithery and back-handed methods but definitely driven by the same motives as SF. FF in particular knew damn well the extent of the church’s cover ups and the reach of abusers into gardai and schools nationwide and still did nothing. there are still disclosures to be made around the cynthia owen and mary boyle cases too – don’t be surprised if you find a fianna failer implicated.
Sorry Scottser but I do disagree, I do believe there is a massive difference between directly action in the protection of paedos and rapists as Gerry did.
Action is perfectly equivalent to a Bishop / Cradinal moving paedo priests around.
On Mary Lou and Pearse, I will forever be disgusted at their denials of said movement of abusers. Mary Lou was practically blue in the face shouting at TV cameras that no such thing happened and ‘how dare’ anyone make such accusations.
Again, this is a perfect equivalent to the denials by Bishops the church in general.
Now, the whole island called for those who hid and denied to be defrocked, fired. Why not ask the same of SF?
If not, I ask all SF voters to ask themselves, if they faced one of the victims of these abusers, ‘what would you say to the abused to justify voting for SF?’
Again, I must strongly stress that I believe the direct action of SF in this is the exact same thing the RCC did, and it is not the same as what FF and this govt did. Not by a long shot!
“there are still disclosures to be made around the cynthia owen and mary boyle cases too – don’t be surprised if you find a fianna failer implicated.”
Not like you to place blame with only speculation to hand Scottser :) I do believe you are right tho, but I wouldn’t include that in my view until, if at all, that info comes out.
“i would argue that yes they did, by more slithery and back-handed methods” is just “no they didn’t but I’ll try and equate apples and oranges rather than admit the massive differences between actually moving child abusers around and possibly being aware that the church were doing the same.”
The SF party actively protected child abusers from the courts. Stop trying to defend their actions with meaningless comparisons. In fact, just stop trying to defend their actions.
Pot kettle black. Hugh mc Elvaney FG comes to mind.
every parties campaign is a two-pronged attack.
1: Smear the opposition
2: Make empty promises (this is fine, as it seems to be widely accepted as the thing to do re: Pat Rabitte)
im sick of it … can’t one party make a considered, realistic, thought out plan, and stay away from childish smear campaigns? We are doomed to be forever run by a bunch of unqualified clowns whoever is in power.
If you want to stay away from childish smear campaigns then maybe stop repeating the deliberate misinterpretation of Pat Rabbitte’s “Isn’t that what you do during an election?” comment.
Appearing on RTÉ’s ‘The Week in Politics’ in December, Rabbitte was discussing Labour’s pledge to maintain child benefit rates, when he was accused of not explaining how the promise could be undermined by a further economic slump.
Rabbitte responded by saying, “Isn’t that what you do during an election?” – a comment widely picked up to mean that parties made flippant election promises while seeking office.
“Even Seán O’Rourke has corrected somebody on the panel who has put the same construction on it,”
Rabbitte said in an interview with TheJournal.ie.
“I was explaining how it came about that we weren’t able to deliver on that promise on child benefit. And he interrupted me to say, ‘You didn’t explain that at the time, you kept it simple.’
And I said, ‘Isn’t that what you do during an election?’ Meaning, ‘Keep it simple.’ Keep the message simple.”

Thank you ReproBertie.
Best shill of the day
Any first year comms student can tell you it doesn’t matter what was said its what people think was said which constitutes the message. Oh my sides
+1
Saving this comment to post ad infinitum over the next few weeks.
No one would vote for them then.
