I’d say Colm’s ‘agent friend’ is a double-dealing scumbag. The email starts “as discussed”, so it likely was sent on foot of a phone call during which Colm’s ‘agent friend’ asked the journalist to put whatever he was looking for into an email.

And then he forwards it around to make the journalist look like a scumbag?

Orrr, does the (false) email allow him send it to various online sites as a scandal to see what the public will suggest, then look at the responses to guide how they market her??

Well, we don’t know who the email came from (and when) but the proposed story does seem very similar to this one:

        http://www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/michaella-mccollums-career-prospects-are-miles-better-now-the-message-will-be-crime-does-indeed-pay-34966598.html

This piece, as always with Independent newspapers, is light on facts and heavy on speculation. And, as most of those commenting on it note, tries to have it both ways: bemoaning the fact that Michaella McCollum is being ‘glamourised’ while contributing to that process by writing the piece in the first place.

If the Independent, and other papers, are so concerned about the possibility that she’ll become a celebrity (albeit a Z-list, Barry Egan interviewee, Irish celebrity) then all they need to do is stop writing about her. Particularly now, when there is no story, other than the fact that she arrived back in Ireland. Big deal.

I read this piece. Pretty low down stuff. She done the time so what is she supposed to do? Walk through the airport apologising?

Mind you, she did play it. She let them know she was arriving. Maybe that is what is irking, that she held her head high.

The person who probably works in PR may have received a call that said. “Can I ask you a few questions about Michaela McCollum?”. The response: please put the questions in an email.

Doesn’t mean they lead the journalist on.

I would suggest she gets and education and a real job instead of riding on the mule, as it were.

Maybe she should go back to Tyrone marry a farmer and work a few shifts in the local bar. OR………. drug muling aside I’d much rather see her on Irish tv than 99% of the personality short ladeyzz we have on. I vote she’s the new Katherine Thomas

Why does the letter writer assume she wants to be a celebrity? Maybe she wants to go into youth or social work to help others to avoid ending up in her situation rather than making it look like a step on the ladder to a glamorous career.

P#**take surely? I wold deeply resent anyone caught with 11kg cocaine becoming a celeb.
I have no interest in hearing, seeing or reading her story of descent from party girl to mule to hellhole prison & path to redemption after finding Jesus or whatever.
Stay out of the papers, try to lead a more constructive life.

Thing is our society and our culture is awash with drugs. Though I understand the wish to avoid normalising her sort of behaviour, excluding this person from any sort of public life is merely sanitising it.

    2. rotide

      Listen to music much?

      Go to the movies?

      Watch TV?

You’re already doing what you would ‘deeply resent’

Any money she makes will dry up soon. I don’t think she’s the type of person to queue around the block for a TV audition. She is famous by accident. Lost a few years and might , (might because we don’t know her intentions let. ) sell a story or book and get mere tens of thousands to last her a lifetime so its not that much really. Its not public money ,Its not my money , its not your money unless you buy the book but no one forced you. fair play to her if she can pull it off. I’ve done a few yokes and lines in the day and had a great time doing it. As have thousands of people in the country from doctors to chefs to students to the scrotes down the street (the police and politicians) . The drugs have got to come from somewhere and I didn’t chose them to be illegal in the first place. The War on Drugs is a crock. Everyone knows it. Plenty of media outlets are profiting from her story , why shouldn’t she get some cash too? I just hope any slimy agent she decides to go with doesn’t rob her blind.

She could do a reality show with Gerry Hutch called something like ‘Monk-ey around with Michaella”

I remember that welsh fella. Who used to smuggle pot. He was a great laugh. Because it was “only” weed. And he looked like great fun.

Where as this girl is basically injecting pure crack into children’s eyes.

That welsh fella though and his smile!!

    Great fun.

  9. geroshite

she’ll be on the Late Late whimpering in a few weeks and we as a nation will give her a big hug and take her as our Diana.

  10. Mikeyfex

She’s penciled in for the ‘What’s Michaella Smuggling’ round where she hides something on her person and family members have to guess what it is on Gary and Paul O’Donovan’s new autumn game show ‘Who Rowed Your Mother?’

Genius, absolute genius. I vote you King of TV. The winters will be so much shorter with top knotch entertainment like that.

  11. rotide

Didn’t see it but not surprising due to A. The Olympics and B. Russia.

If it’s any consolation to Mick, far worse happened to Roy Jones Jr and it all worked out fairly well for him.

I happen to know for a FACT that she’s working on a lezzer-romp movie (straight to xhamster) with the Scottish one with the big boobies. It’ll be set in a prison.
