RTE news went with the Tayto Park, the Garda Strike, British Banks & Brexit, the Calais Camp and Road Deaths in Hartstown and Coolock stories ahead of the Philip Cairns Protest story. It says a lot when state involvment in the murder of young children, Cairns and Boyle, is last on the list of importance news that needs reporting to the licence fee payers of this country. RTE also refered to it as memorial march, which it was, but it was also a protest march which is why it went to the Garda station in Rathfarnham. Lets see how they treat the issue on Crimecall on Monday, will they give it the focus and time it deserves or will they continue to collude with their cronies in protecting political figures in this god forsaken country.

It’s not a giant conspiracy in RTE; the order of the news is decided by the news editor of the night, as in any publication. Sometimes any given individual will agree with that order, sometimes they’ll think the news editor that particular night might have a tin ear.
There’s an ideology in RTE news which influences ALL editorial decisions.
In fairness, the Tayto Park story was of major importance to the RTÉ news and current affairs team – that’s where they get most of their newsreaders and from where Miriam O’Callaghan gets her fashion sense.
Gareth O’Callaghan’s page on Facebook is increasingly turning into a pitchfork mob.
He himself couldn’t believe it when it was relayed to him that Cairns family members weren’t supportive of his social media quest. Having put up a ‘I’ll carry on regardless’ post, he responded to one reasonably measured comment – which said, some great intentions here and great efffort, but perhaps a little more discretion online required due to the nature of the medium – with an incoherent reply saying ‘how dare you ask me to be discreet because… sexual abuse’.
The rent-a-mob are starting to cause problems, especially for the residents of the infamous address in Terenure that he’s targeting, and solicitors are involved. The whole thing is sadly more therapy for O’Callaghan than justice for Cairns.
That said, noone would be happier than me if something positive came of it all, and I had to eat my words in the end.
