I’ve seen this kind of inflation in other houses as well. One that I’ve had friend had been rented by a management company for the same amount for nearly a decade. Whenever someone left, they brought in someone new. The rent was always a little higher, and the remaining occupants lowered their portion accordingly. The main problem, though, was the deposit. There was always a one-month deposit, and by this time I estimate it’s at least twice as large than the original deposit. It’ll come as quite a shock when the management company tells everyone to leave or the occupants decide to walk away and find out they’d be getting less than half of their money back.
“…..The rent was always a little higher, and the remaining occupants lowered their portion accordingly” …true, nothing wrong with that. I did myself in the mid-90s, and with the landlords approval. He said to me, you have the house lease, it’s up to you to fill it and pay rent. Kept my own rent to a minimum, and with little to no fuss, except for one jumped up student… but the money these guys are charging is lunatic :)

So its okay when you did it. It always comes out in the end. So the fact these people can get more than you did is your real problem.

Dublins rental market is now in outer Space. The edge has long disapeared

Sharing ads are free, you have to pay for the rest of the advertising.
Daft really needs to start tightening up on these ads. Its not really a house share, its short term room rental, especially with the bills, cleaning, and linen included.
These short-term let ads in the to let and sharing sections are really distorting the market.

Even if this greedy so and so is paying taxes he/she is still making a killing but you just know that someone unscrupulous enough to charge those rents is not paying the tax. If only there was an institution who’s job it was to catch people like this

Shot term only, ask no questions.
Price is outrageous.
Some people may only need a place for a few months but as an adult, at least a room to yourself for that price.

You want to live city centre? You pay the going rate. I work with many international folks who were given guidance by our moronic relocation team (a young Grad from Tralee who lives by the convention centre)at work that Sir John Rogersons, IFSC, Smithfield, Gasworks etc were the main options unless you wanted to live in the sticks. Utter nonsense. They could barely afford it. I encouraged them to move out towards Dun Laighaire, Tullyvale, Bray, Ashtown, Drumcondra. Commute perfectly manageable, rents more reasonable and your social life doesn’t entirely revolve around spending every single bloody night at The Church or The Woolshed with every other German or Italian that Google, MS and Hubspot have bulk-imported to service the sales markets of EMEA from their ‘state of the art’ no tax paying Dublin call centres…,

Yeah but why come up with reasonable suggestions and solutions like that when you can stamp your feet and cry about how unfair life is?
