Tralee, County Kerry

Jerry O’Sullivan writes:

St Joseph was beheaded in a dastardly attack on the crib in the Square Tralee at the weekend. Quickly restored by the council and back in place today but bearing the scars on his neck.

Often the supporting player to the bigger stars of the nativity (I’m looking at you, three kings…) what he did to deserve the vandals’ attention is anyone’s guess.

    Some people are idiots. Why can’t they just leave things alone that don’t concern them, the inbred prinks? I’m fairly athiest, but I doubt this was an act of an offended non believer. More likely to be some langered gimp having the bantz.

      Also, Joseph ought to be exempt of any vitriol or recrimination.
      He was an innocent bystander.

      SPOILER ALERT;
      It was the Angel Gabriel all the time. Joseph was gay, so he just went along with it.
      TRUE.

      Funny how the bible skips from Baby Jesus in a manger to a brief mention of pre-teen Jesus having a go at his Ma because she lost him, to Adult Jesus turning water into wine and wine into blood.

      Where’s Jesus The Difficult Teenage Years? With him stropping at Joseph and shouting “you’re not my real Dad anyway!” when he’s not allowed out on the sabbath with a giant pitcher of “water”.

        see also: Dogma. that wonderful scene where the Metatron explains about how Jesus struggled with the unfair weight of it all.

    ugh these nativity scenes are dangerously offensive to muslims and atheists they should not be allowed

      “Dangerously offensive”?

      As an atheist I’m not in the least bit offended. Why would I be offended by a predominantly Christian country marking the birth of Christ?

        Surely an atheist who believes that Ireland is predominantly Christian = an Uncle Tom or a useful idiot?

          Don’t be so stupid. To me accepting reality is pretty much a corner stone of being an atheist. It won’t stop me laughing at their fairy tales but nor will it mean I get offended when someone sticks up a nativity scene.

    I feel sorry for poor oul Joe – he never gets to appear in any of his wife’s apparitions. Bit of a Denis Thatcher character.
