Carrick-on Shannon, County Leitrim
Eamonn Crudden writes:
These people are contravening the spirit of the bye-law (2 hrs max parking) with impunity with a blind eye turned by Gardai despite repeated complaints.
They have a Jeep parked for long periods twice a week every week directly outside a shop [Keaney’s] run by the elderly parents of a prominent yes campaigner.
The fact that they are doing so after being asked repeatedly to desist from this constitutes targeted harassment IMO.

So disagreeing with Eamon Crudden’s opinion is now “Harassment”?
Triggered abortionistas are triggered.
Cuck, snowflake, beta, soy etc. The language of an obvious troll. It almost goes around to become satire. But sadly it’s just lazy Reddit speak. Grow up. It’s weird.
Technically its 4chan speak.
That you even know… log off for a bit, your family miss you.
First of all I wasn’t attacking you. I’m on Reddit and 4chan quite a lot so I know, more then you at least, but that’s not saying much. Got any more unsolicited advice? , it seems to be the thing you close with.
Having an in-depth knowledge of 4chan shorthand isn’t a CV opener, just FYI.
Nelly, Your ignorance of what reddit is is remarkale. Perhaps you should spend a bit more time there before pretending to know wtf you are talking about.
I know what Reddit is and I probably visit it more then you. But using internet buzzwords when adults are discussing real world issues makes you seem like a silly meme child. The kind of mentally underdeveloped person that says “lol” in a real world conversation, out loud, in actual public.
why all the hatred for 4chan and reddit?
Think how awful the rest of the web would be if they didn’t distract so many people.
Yes, that’s exactly what he said and your succinct and accurate analysis is why your opinion is always so valued on BS.
Your username shows the level you operate at. It yells it even.
Do please explain.
English isn’t your first language obviously. I will leave it.
Hilarious.
“I will leave it.” = “I can’t back up my stupid comment.”
Triggered.
Were you? Maybe grow a thicker skin.
he could’a said fingered
ooppss
Frilly, you are sooo naughty – but I like it :-D
I’m not that kind of girl Frilly.
Hey Nelly, you do realise my original reply was a reply to Sentient Won and not to you, right?
but shur tis the No-siders that are throwing all the tantrums
Exactly, leave them alone yotrip themselves up.
Sorry, to trip.
No edit on Android.
man, get some original trolling
Man you can’t even read.
Leitrim County Council should ticket them.
Or better yet, take a leaf out of Google’s book and ban all parking in Co. Leitrim. That should fix it.
+1 for banning all parking.
Or perhaps the anti choice side could run a more ethical campaign, but I won’t hold my breath.
at least he said “IMO”
The opening line particularly around ” contravening the spirit of the bye-law” is a bit dramatic. People should be allowed to hold and express different opinions. A healthy functioning society needs this.
This sadly is a symptom of the greater disease, people are just far too fragile nowadays and get “triggered by any idea the contradicts their worldview.
Maybe there is a bit of casual trolling going on here, maybe there is not. One thing is certain by rising to it and getting flabbergasted the yes campaigner has fallen into the trap.
I expect both referendum campaigns to get increasingly nasty in the weeks ahead. Thankfully I do not have a dog in this fight and can live with either outcome.
My inner nihilist demands that I pull out an armchair, get some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the chaos.
You have a point.
I’m not ambivalent but have no vote, do I too have pulled up a deckchair.
However, if it is indeed a fact that the Gardai are willfully turning a blind eye to parking infractions, that is another story.
Just a minor point (though there’s plenty more to disagree about in your comment); the ‘spirit of the bye-law’ reference in the original post refers to parking bye-laws, and the ‘contravening’ element is the overstay for said parking. (That this is obviously pointed and should be acted on by the relevant body is an important factor, not simply for this low-level but persistent and impactful ‘harassment’, but because other cars on the same street should and/or would not be permitted to park for so long in one space)
Do bye-laws have spirits? I thought they were, like, “laws” and were prescriptive.
If the bye-law has a maximum of 2 hours, then if you park for more then 2 hours you are in breach of the bye-law and punished accordingly.
unless there is no punishment…
“(b) A vehicle parked in a Disc Parking Place during business hours shall not be so parked for longer than the period indicated as the maximum parking period for that Disc Parking Place by means of an authorised information plate accompanying traffic sign Number RUS-018 authorised by the Regulations of 1997.”
and then
“(e) A vehicle which had been parked in a Disc Parking Place shall not be parked again in a Disc Parking Place in the public road in which that Disc Parking Place is situated until at least one hour after the vehicle last vacated that Disc Parking Place.”
finally
“9. A person who contravenes any part of these Bye-Laws shall be guilty of an offence in accordance with the said Section 36 of the Road Traffic Act 1994.”
only you can quote bye-laws and make it sound hot, cian. now do that littering one again, it gives me the shivers.
“Contravening the spirit of the bye-law” is not actually the same thing as contravening the actual bye-law, however, which is presumably why the Guards have not done anything about it.
I don’t know whether this is actually referring to feeding the parking meter (which is what the photos on Facebook suggest) or leaving once the grace period is up, driving round the block and then parking in the same space again. On the other hand if they’re simply parking for the maximum period of two hours plus whatever grace period the local authority allows, then the “spirit” is meaningless. If there’s an actual contravention then the Guards can and should do something about it, if not then we’re getting a dose of MOPEry being helpfully publicized by the Pro-Choice answer to Alive! magazine.
I said ‘spirit’ cos I am not a lawyer and don’t want to be sued by these botty-boos. However I read the bye law and it is pretty unambiguous. Signs on street say 2 hrs max parking. Byelaw states ‘A vehicle parked in a Disc Parking Place during business hours shall not be so parked for longer than the period indicated as the maximum parking period for that Disc Parking Place’. Car has been there twice a week for 6 months majority of the day.
they might sue you now for calling them botty-boos
Get over yourself Eamonn Crudden.
It’s not the parking of the car you object to, it’s the posters inside the car.
If this is correct then you’re just another Abortionista trying to silence those who dissent from your opinion.
You’ll fit right in here on Broadsheet.
“Thankfully I do not have a dog in this fight and can live with either outcome.”
Ah so you don’t have any females in your life?! Interesting, where is this all male society in which you inhabit?
Here’s hoping you don’t have a daughter, or a female friend or anyone who might suffer as a result of the 8th
Vote yes to give half the population control over their own bodies in their own country.
Listen up people dumb enough to unironically care about something! A male nihilist is speaking!
What’s stopping the Keaneys parking their car there with ‘ yes’ posters? Obvious solution.
Perhaps the Gardaí suddenly enforcing the two hour parking limit if a vehicle with “YES” posters occupies the space. Let’s not forget that a van with a “NO” billboard was allowed to park up on the grounds of a Garda Station in Carrick on Shannon.
The shop people would prefer to see you know – customers – using the parking.
The mature thing for the yes people would be to do as Leo says and get up early in the morning.
Park a few cars along there to remove the opportunity for the ‘No’ car to park there, ‘Yes’ posters in all the windows would be a bonus.
The immature thing would be dogsh1t under the door handles.
Slightly less immature cover over the No posters by sticking Yes posters on the outside of the car.
Use vaseline, won’t damage the car, but a total Bolleaux to get off.

Broadsheet! Fix the link PLEASE
What can you expect from a pig but a grunt.
Antis have form targetting elderly parents. The nazis in Yankkk Defense harassed Brendan Howlin’s elderly mother in Wexford when he was Minister for Health.
I’m sure the perpetrators think they’re teaching the uppity, baby killin’ quare a lesson!
How “prominent” is the Yes campaigner? What are THEY doing that makes them and their arguement prominent?
Main person driving canvassing of Carrick-on-Shannon since start of campaign.
sure they parked one in the car park of the garda station last week

apropos of nothing, i know a couple of lads who’d rob it for you if threw them a score the day before the dole.
just sayin like.
Is it true the Superintendent is married to one of the Save 8th campaigners? Is this not the second story, was there not a van parked outside the back of the Gardai Station in Carrick on Shannon last week in Leitrim. What is really going on here ?
Would you give a chip about infringing upon the spirit of the parking byelaws if the signs weren’t there?
How did you feel when the PAC Repeal mural was taken down because the letter of the law stated that a charitable organisation wasn’t permitted to take political action? Did you feel the same grá for the spirit of the rules and the righteous enforcement of such?
I see self-righteous love boats silhouettes and your mates mocking up Breda O’Brien with a Repeal heart. Hopefully others see it too and vote no.
