They’ve moved on from the Williamite Wars to WW2, so there’s some progress in fairness

Whataboutery Donald Sutherland who played the IRA Nazi collaborator in The Eagle Has Landed, and went on to play many respectable roles, including Mr Bennett in Pride & Prejudice?

it is. I’m no Unionist but something that’s always a trifle uncomfortable is the, ahem, dalliance with Nazi-ism that went on here on the basis of ‘my enemy’s enemy is my friend’. I can see at the time why such things were done, and I appreciate that it’s unlikely that those who did were aware of what was going on in mainland Europe, but much and all as I loathe Nelson McCausland, he just *might* have a point here. Even UKIP, for all their harking back to the good old days in Blighty, aren’t about naming things after Oswald Mosely

Have to say, I’d tend to agree with you here. There’s more shades of grey than a twilight fanfix here but I think you’ve summed it up nicely

The only Irish person hung for collaborating with the Nazis was Irish Unionist William Joyce aka Lord Haw Haw. .

If one were to think of Irish political movements friendly to Nazism and indeed fascism one cannot forget Fine Gael’s Blueshirt past. Without a doubt, there was probably some Sinn Fein members that back in the day when Nazi Germany was a war with England were friendly with them. After all, they shared a common enemy.
However by and large when somebody resorts and desperation to labelling their opponent a Nazi they have run out of ideas and utterly the lost the debate. They are mainly seeking to discredit their opponent.
People that want to see Nazis or communists everywhere will do just that, it cannot be avoided.
It’s interesting that he is trying to paint Sinn Fein as a form of a Nazi-like party. From what I can see some of their ideas and policies are openly Marxist. There are nearly as bad as people before profit or solidarity or whatever the hell they are called nowadays with the virtue signalling and empty pr stunts. They love their buzzwords solidarity, equality etc.

” The further left you go the closer you get to fascism ”
      Alan Bleasdale. Playright.

McCausland is either very smart and using the lack of free-thought among his flock to stoke the sectarian fire like his party founder, or he is actually just a painfully bigoted clown with little self-awareness..I hope it’s the latter, I suspect it’s the former.
He has form. He thinks he is from the mythical “lost tribe of Israel”. He denies evolution as a plausible theory. He thinks the world was created 6000 years ago, he is a physicist, bizarrely. He pushed to keep awarding state contracts to Red Sky, despite it’s evidenced racketeering.
