This afternoon.

Earlier.

Any excuse.

I see they’ve plonked Luke down on top of what was once a fun little water feature.
I guess this is the Corpo’s way of saying they won’t be repairing the water jets on Sough King St..

And also, could they not have put him a round plinth to match the brickwork on the pavement?!
Well spotted, poor streetscaping.
Great sculptures of an Irish legend. I love the giant bust for a giant of a man, a giant character and a giant of a voice. Yes a round plinth would have made much more sense. The bronze?, it’s hard to make out the detail, Broadsheet won’t spoil us with some larger images! I will be checking these both out in person soon anyway but I certainly welcome the timely tribute to a great artist.
Come on people, let your life begin
Come on now let the sun shine in
Come on people let your life begin
Let it in, let it in
Sabina Higgins was a bridesmaid at Luke Kelly’s wedding in 1965.

…. and speaking of giants, why is there no giant statue of Gulliver in Dublin?
….not that anyone on Dublin City Council has ever read anything other than the pop-up version of Gulliver’s Travels!
….
They tried Gulliver in ‘88. Didn’t work out. On Bride st affixed to the National archives building is a little blue house.. but don’t ask for which island inhabitants lest you start a war..!!
Is that Paul Weller playing the banjo?!
god bless your eyesight.
Loved the bronze…the other is a monstrosity, looks like they commissioned Macnas to knock it up.
I wish this one got recited yesterday
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For what flowed Irelands blood in rivers,
That began when Brian chased the Dane,
And did not cease nor has not ceased,
With the brave sons of ´16,
For what died the sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
Was it greed that drove Wolfe Tone to a paupers death in a cell of cold wet stone?
Will German, French or Dutch inscribe the epitaph of Emmet?
When we have sold enough of Ireland to be but strangers in it.
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
To those brave men who fought and died that Róisín live again with pride?
Her sons at home to work and sing,
Her youth to dance and make her valleys ring,
Or the faceless men who for Mark and Dollar,
Betray her to the highest bidder,
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
For what suffer our patriots today?
For what suffer our patriots today?
They have a language problem, so they say,
How to write “No Trespass” must grieve their heart full sore,
We got rid of one strange language now we are faced with many, many more,
For what suffer our patriots today?
