Sean Whelan
Laura Fitzgerald writes;
RTÉ News is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Whelan as its new London Correspondent. Sean has held the role of Economics Correspondent with RTÉ News for almost nine years, extensively reporting the economic crash, the Troika bailout and the economic recovery
Sean will be commencing his new role in the Summer. Sean succeeds Fiona Mitchell who will be taking up a new assignment later this year when her four year posting in London comes to an end…

Hopefully George Lee gets the Economics job back. Although I doubt it. At least he knew what he was talking about, Sean god bless him, did not.
I don’t mind Sean Whelan though good luck to him
Or they could get some fresh meat in. George Lee was foolish and naive and went in to politics only to realise he was a pawn to win FG votes. If he was so foolish to be taken in that easily and then returned to RTE with his tail beneath his legs, accepting a position more suited to a Lyrics FM broadcaster. I dont think the public deserves that. There is a huge pool of available talent that will never get a chance in RTE purely because it is a closed club run for its members and not for the public.
Fine, hopefully from this ‘huge pool of available talent’ they appoint someone with an actual economics qualification and some industry experience to go along with it. Doesn’t have to be George Lee. It probably won’t be George Lee. It will probably be someone form this ‘huge pool of talent’ you speak of that doesn’t know their arse from their elbow with regard to Economics
What the hell is wrong with Lyric FM?
It’s the only decent thing RTÉ do
tosh
snigger
Another woman gone!
Is rtes DG another Thatcher?
They all seem to be rubbing Dee up the wrong way.
Where’s she ‘gone’ Peter? She’s still got her place at the trough.
Sean needs to either grow a proper beard or shave. That stubble is doing him no favours.
Ah, dear old Sean, that’s his ‘I’m a serious journalist ‘ pose.. do you remember the €5bn cost of not proceeding with the water charges..?
Loss-making RTE rearranges the deckchairs on its Titanic. Is Fiona going to take up Sean’s economic role or will she just be added to the army of political correspondents hanging around Leinster House. I struggle to see what Fiona whatshername added to RTE news that Gavin Reilly didn’t cover better at Virgin.
Economic commentary, especially the forecasting side of it, is like horse racing commentary. Why not switch roles around for a trial period? Let a sports commentator cover economic matters for a while. George Lee might find going to the Punchestown races a new window on the world.
And RTE needs a London Correspondent because…..
And RTĖ needs a London Correspondent because…..
If Fiona is related to Phil and Grant Mitchell, watch out…
Because like a lot of like things and stuff happen there like and that stuff affects us too and maybe we should like hear about it. Things and stuff!
Very odd photo
The pose like
It looks like there was a lot of work and directions put into it
From his facial expression
To the contrived hands
IMAGE is so important. Maybe in that photo he is a BEFORE image. A razor blade company would give him a month’s supply of razors and then post up an AFTER photo. It might help sharpen his opinions on political life in London.
Economics correspondent ..and no qualification in that area whats so ever.
Shur’ when did that stop any lad out there
Look at the experts Marian introduces
Mike Burns got an MBE and if he is careful he could have trip to the Palace
to be given a gong, as a so called “Public Service Broadcaster” should not
these positions be the subject of a public recruitment procedure,
