In fairness though, they should put normal traffic lights on level crossings (in addition to the barriers) instead of those flashy lights. People might take less chances.

‘Normal’ traffic lights? But so many motorists take chances and break normal red and amber lights every day. At least with railway crossings there are actual barriers. Not that they posed an obstacle to these dopes.

There you go, that’s the type of selfish morons we have to share our roads with, botty-boo-boos that take on a train potentially full of passengers/staff just because they haven’t the patience to wait 2/3 minutes. Did any of them get fined, penalty points, pay for the damage, I doubt it.
I’ll be very surprised if the lad driving the truck loaded with gas cylinders still has a licence.

I always imagine a typical German tourist’s incredulity at having to sit in a halted queue of cars on their way to the airport because every 3-5 mins a train has to pass a level crossing on one of the city’s main arterial routes…like they’re down in the arse end of Offaly somewhere circa 1982 in a bronze Opel Kadett
They have level crossings in Germany and also Trams. And trains every 3-5 minutes? Yeah…
Trains go both directions every 10 minutes. Sometimes the barriers are up for only a couple of mins
Install an automatic self raising electrified steel wall with tyre puncturing spikes… about 25 yards back from the gates, that’ll learn em..
Maybe add some flashing lights and warning sounds with some extra spinning metal saw blades etc. too
