Green Party former Gen Election and EU Parliament candidate @saoirse_mchugh confirms that she will not vote for the Programme for Government #todayradio
— Today RTÉ Radio 1 (@TodayRadioRTE) June 16, 2020
This morning.
How dare you.
Meanwhile…
…only nine of the Green Party’s 12 TDs backed the plan, with three other deputies abstaining in a vote.
Three TDs – Francis Noel Duffy, Patrick Costello and Neasa Hourigan – abstained in the vote, along with the Northern Ireland MLA Clare Bailey.
The other nine TDs, as well as their two senators and two MEPs, voted in favour of the plan.
The deal now goes to the party membership to decide whether or not to ratify the document, something which requires a two-thirds majority.
The first hustings will be a membership teleconference this Thursday night.
The results of the postal ballots will be known on 26 June.

boo hoo
Strange angle to take with the story – Saoirse McHugh doesn’t hold any elected office, surely the abstentions of any one of the officer-holders is a much bigger story.
+1
Paul Murphy has been courting her hard, wouldn’t be surprised to see her jump
Better fit – she genuinely seems more interested in generic anti-establishment grandstanding than policies that help the environment.
Whatever chance she has as a Green party candidate in Mayo, she’ll have zero chance as a Rise Trotskyist
…cause she’s a woman, two RA obsessed oul lads discussing the most vibrant, exciting, engaging and articulate newcomer, in Irish politics,is she a good ‘fit’ Rob ?
Remember don’t feed the troll.
johnny, pull your pants back up and calm down
Your right Baz I may have curtailed that fascinating exchange between two RA obsessed oul fellas on where Saoirse “fits” best …carry on like it’s 1970…..every woman I know just loves old men describing where they “fit” ….
Johnny debating is like a pigeon playing chess: he knocks over the pieces, poops all over the board, and then struts about thinking that he has won anyway.
Not at all Rob,please continue I loved this in your post “Better fit” about Saoirse, your right I should have allowed you and Murdering Mary continue…don’t let outdated offensive language slow you down…carry on …like its 1970 and nobody cares about deep seated hatred and misogyny…. sure it’s just a bit craig telling a woman how good a fit she is…lighten up huh
“… cause she’s a woman” said Johnny, insinuating sexism, when no one else was even discussing the sex of the person.
Meh…
There’s a hint Clamp in the header and if your totally lost as usual the picture …..
Em…. what? A woman’s name is used in the header and the photo is of the woman, so…?
None of that has anything to do with your insinuation of sexism by the commenter you responded to.
Losing Clampers are you here on behalf of Murdering Mary?
I’m at a bit of a loss as to what exactly your point is, you have had ample opportunity to make it, if you have one..
Mine is two well know hate filled misogynists discussing how good a ‘fit’ Saoirse is…
But don’t let facts or reason slow you down clamp-just keep trucking….is Rob or Murdering Mary not able stand up for themselves or would you like go a few rounds,do you remember how that ended up for you last time Clamp….you can still just grab your crayons and go scribble someone else its almost not too late…
The comments on here are getting very nasty..too much back history between commenters…I thought it was clear that it was an ideological ‘fit’ that was being referred to…didn’t read anything sinister into it..
You really want me try decipher what Murdering Mary, who daily posts are hate filled screeds and only wants talk about kneecappings and killings and pedo’s and young lads in wheelchairs-i’ve no idea what that troll was doing on a tread about Saoirse other than soiling it which he did.
@Ouch [Time stamp 18:41 – in the next 20-30 mins]
5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ………. incoming!!!
Yes, especially Neasa H, who’s likely to get a cabinet seat.
..unless she’s playing for a more comfy seat..
…Regina, Shane, Zapper, Groucho…unelected people making decisions as if they were government ministers…now there’s a big story…
Assuming you mean John Halligan there Bisto
Just to say he didn’t contest the last election
If he did, I suspect he would have gotten elected, he opened +16% in 2016
Whereas Matt Shanahan, the Independent that got elected in February there opened on just over 9%
The combined FF FF vote there in February was circa 34%
Down from just under 50% in GE2016
…V…he even admitted he wanted to take the money and run…ffs…these people are still making life and death decisions without any electoral mandate…not that they were ever accountable in the first place…Zapper has been especially ineffectual…the rape case yesterday should be her legacy…
Zappone has been the most disappointing Senior Government Minister EVER
And given the field
that says a lot
Totally distracted
and too absorbed in herself
and zero conviction about anything
Other than herself
would be gas if all the like minded membership did the same
I don’t think anyone would call her a team-player.
I like her. I don’t think she toes the Green line.
I don’t understand this whole debate within The Greens. You can’t go around telling people that action on climate change must take place right now in order to divert disaster and then turn around and say no to a seat at the decision making table in the hope that in 5 years time you might have more TD’s and therefore more bargaining power. I’m a Green voter but am disgusted at treatment of Eamon Ryan by some within the party.
The greens will have little power but be held responsible for things going wrong. Green issues will be nowhere on the table if they get annihilated at the next election.
It may make more sense to consolidate and (hopefully) build to a point where they can have some say.
…Eamon Ryan is dead to me since scuppering metrolink – a green party leader standing in the way of public transport…he should be ashamed of himself

The Greens are right to have _some_ misgivings about this government, because they probably will pay for it in 5 years time. But thats a selfish/political/long term angle. If they actually believe in the urgent need for environmental change then going into government right now is the only choice. They need to put climate change above the number of seats they might win in 2025.
Its worth noting also their negotiating team has also achieved huge things – from reading the Program for Government you’d think all 3 parties were equal in terms of numbers/influence. Theres absolutely no guarantee they’ll get as much (or any) of the Green agenda in any future government program.
…didn’t Saoirse say onetime that she could not support the greens going into government with FFG…maybe she meant it…maybe it’s not just one of those things you tend to say during an election…
I think she said she would leave the party?
She probably will, if indeed the party hits FFG’s G-Spots
So is Saoirse free yet?
Saorview
the FG spinbots are really out in force on here today
Do you think there’s facemasks and social distancing in the Fraperoom?
Jesus
Oul’ Francie won’t be getting his dinner tonight

This whole thing is evidence of the entire bloody country completely bottling it on urgent environmental issues. It shouldn’t be one tiny party spending all its energy and support trying to drag two massive intransigent behemoths like FF and FG back from the brink on biodiverity, climate change and public infrastructure while everyone else sits on the sidelines sneering.
Who?
