For all the talk of being guided by “the science,” our decision-makers are actually ignoring the science as they play favorites.
The double standard is obvious, and erodes the trust of the public who admirably adhered to this era-changing lockdown. Why believe anything the governor, the mayor or the media tell you when they set one rule for certain people and one rule for others….
Couldn’t happen here, obviously, but still.

Crying hypocrisy just seems like a way of dodging the issues, of whch there are a few. The protests are a health issue, yes, but they’re a popular response to issues of institutional racism, police brutality and, let’s not forget, the disproportionate effect of the pandemic on black and other minority Americans. Meanwhile, the right-wing Republican administration has utterly botched the pandemic response, arguing that either the risk is not as great as the scientists warn, or that the precautions are not worth the economic cost, not to mention the incompetence and corruption. When you see restaurant and bars reopening, it’s the staff, who have no choice but to go back to work, that are most at personal and economic risk. Remember the astro-turfed, mostly white, heavily armed protests that stormed buildings a few weeks ago? They weren’t wearing masks, they weren’t afraid to get in people’s faces, they were denying that there was any risk at all, and, of course, the police did not respond with horrific violence, and they also got plenty of media coverage unlike, say, Amazon workers protesting working conditions.
Sure, you can charge hypocrisy here if you want to avoid taking about anything else, it’s just not the biggest sin being committed, not by a long shot.

Regarding testing there are 10 test centers a close walk to me-ALL tests are free and anyone can simply get one done regardless of immigration status, warrants outstanding etc..
Most offices are doing temp checks,no mask no service in ANY store, bars and restaurants are doing take out only,which is why the streets/parks full people drinking and smoking weed.
Vast majority people are not bothering with tests unless they sick or showing symptons-but they are readily available and free.

It’s the teachers who say it’s too unsafe to teach primary school kids but are quite happy to go on a BLM demo with their Waitrose picnic basket who I find so amusing.
