Ah that is sad news. As an 80s kid snooker was huge and seemingly always on TV. Willie was one of the good guys.

Agreed, I would watch the snooker when young in the 80’s.
      He was always a character

Snooker Loopy bald-shaming may have been ok in the 80s but not anymore

Lighten up dav.. It’s just a bit of humour in line with Broadsheet’s post linking to the Snooker Loopy video as a tribute to Willie Thorne

          Quote:
“Now old Willy Thorne his hair’s all gone
And his mates all take the rise
His opponent said cover up his head
Cos it’s shining in my eyes
When the light shines down on his bare crown
          It’s a cert he’s gonna walk it
It’s just not fair giving off that glare
‘Perhaps I ought to chalk it”

I loved his excitement as the cue ball approach a pocket was infectious,
    “where’s the cue ball going!!!!”

          hm…Virgo’s snooker-playing fortunes peaked in 1979 h/t wiki
…handy with the balls yourself Mary,or just a fan from the 70’s and early 80’s.
