Dirty Rottie Scoundrels

This morning

Following the abandonment earlier this month of Beau (middle), a female Rottweiler in urgent need of veterinary care, outside the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre, Ashbourne Road, Finglas, Dublin 11…

…CCTV footage (above) from December 2 shows two people walking up to the gates at the centre with Beau on a lead, which is subsequently dropped over a metal post. The Rottie is left behind, looking after the people who left her there…

Eimear Cassidy, Operations Assistant Manager, Dogs Trust Ireland said:

“I went to open the rehoming centre gates, just after 7:30am and found the poor dog, who we named Beau, attached to the gates. She was immediately friendly and very pleased to see me, which made it even more upsetting when I reviewed the CCTV footage and saw she had been abandoned just before midnight.

I burst into tears when I realised, she had spent over seven hours in the cold, on her own, just lying there, especially given the fact that we have an emergency number stuck to the gate.

It wasn’t until I took her indoors into the light, that I saw the tumours hanging from her undercarriage and that her head was tilted to one side.

Upon veterinary examination, it was discovered that Beau had a chronic ear condition that appeared, like her tumours, to be untreated, leaving her in enormous discomfort and causing her head tilt.

In order to decide on the best course of veterinary treatment, we have sent off samples from Beau’s various tumours for laboratory analysis to see if and how they can be treated but are worried about her prognosis.”

Becky Bristow, Executive Director, Dogs Trust Ireland added:

“We are very saddened by this case and appeal to anybody who is having difficulties with their dog to please contact us. We are not here to judge you and we will do our upmost to help you, whatever your circumstances are, because we want to avoid cases like Beau happening in the future.”

I’m not praising them but It does show that they had some small bit of kindness in them to abandon the poor thing at a shelter rather than dump it out of a moving car somewhere or worse.

    Scum
To abandon a sick dog like that
When she needed compassion and help the most

I can’t bring myself to think of the pain she felt as she watched them walk away
Imagine the sense of forlorn that Beau felt for all those hours on her own waiting for someone to come to those strange gate
    The fear and terror

and after all those years of trust and loyalty she had for her owners

On the the cusp of crying here myself

No other living creature should be left in this pair’s care again

            @BB

Cruelty is hating a girlfriend as she sings her heart out for you and then to accept a prize for the retelling of that horrid story in a public forum where she is likely to be identified.

            @V

Your interminable megalomania is pretty sick indeed.

They should not be blurred out. Their identity should not be protected (although they would be hard to identify as they all look the same)

This is heartbreaking. All dogs give us is unconditional love and this is how people repay them. Ugh.

I hope she can be treated and rehomed with someone who’ll look after her properly and watch for signs of ill health, rather than abandoning her when she’s too sick.

Dogs are such affection hoors. They want the ear scratches and the belly rubs and they’re the most wonderful antidepressant when you play with them. It breaks my heart to see them mistreated.

-so you need an appointment-this is certainly another way to alienate the local community, what with being closed and all that, look some revenge porn.

“Our Rehoming Centre is temporarily closed to drop in visits, but we will be continuing to rescue and rehome dogs who need us”

..they really should have called ahead on their own phones and made an appointment to see the ‘rescue people’ for an evaluation, but of course first popped by their vet and have it the once over, then stopped in at the appointed time….

or just tie it to the gate :)

    Rottweilers are excellent guard dogs.
This mutt should be quite used to spending a few hours outside chained to a railing.
His untreated medical condition is more problematic but the idea he gives a monkeys about being outside on a cold night is absurd.
Some people on here have gone soft in the head.

    Skangers and their dogs.

Dog ownership in general has got out of hand in this country. There is zero enforcement of regulations and many owners don’t think the rules apply to them anyway. Dogs defecating everywhere, and off the leash out of control. Lots of dogs left on their own all day in apartments while the owner is out at work.
There should be a higher bar for people to able to buy a dog.

Totally agree. i’d absolutely love a dog. But unfortunately I work 12 hour shifts at night and it would be unfair of me to leave a dog alone for that length of time.

      1. Charger Salmons

        Respect Walter.
Putting in the hard yards on a 12-hour overnighter.
Hopefully for you effort will eventually equal reward.

a dog licence that you do a basic cop on test for, including a first year home check and a suitability home check.

The rot ( sorry ) started when the gubbermint gave grants for starting puppy farms. Next step was to recognise there was a cruelty problem and allot money which was distributed through the Min of Ag.

Message has to be loud and clear. Don’t get a dog if you are not prepared to look after it.

It’s unbieveable how some people don’t understand that dogs are living breathing beings.
    They have feelings.

I know that sounds obvious, but some people don’t think they do.
The treatment of dogs and all animals in this country is atrocious.

Adds and programmes need to be commissioned in order to get the point across.

I know the prime time investigates expose on greyhounds didn’t do much to change the law or caution the guilty parties.

Is there a campaign that I shoukd be aware of?

its heartening to hear the BS commenters empathise with Beau….. and yet y’all will be eating Turkey, ham, pork, eggs, cheese etc today, tomorrow and on and on.
