The Mutation Situation

at

Dr Colm Henry, Chief Clinical Officer, HSE

This morning.

RTÉ Radio One’s Claire Byrne Live.

Dr Colm Henry, chief clinical officer with the HSE said the options for mixing with family over Christmas are “narrowing” with an increase in Covid-19 infection rates across all age groups.

He wans everybody to reconsider their festive plans. “It’s about reducing close contacts so the virus cannot jump from person to person.”

Asked about the new coronavirus variant in the UK, he said mutations were not uncommon with new viruses. “This strain has taken off in the south east of England in the past four weeks, it appears to be much more transmissible and is better at evading the body’s immune response – but we do not know for sure yet.”

Options ‘narrowing’ for family Christmas gatherings, warns HSE (RTÉ)

There are over 40 flights due in to Northern Ireland’s 2 main airports today from Great Britain. Add in ferries from Scotland

    joined up thinking

They can add in more restrictions if they like but my crimbo plans are set and they ain’t changing now

I know a few folks this is causing war, one partner wanting to cancel plans on 24th with one set of in laws so that 25th lot are happy with bubble…I’m sure this is common enough,

Channeling Carl Henenghan here but what evidence is there that it is more transmissible?

When someone tests positive for SARS-CoV-2 from a PCR test, it is a yes / no result – they have no idea what strain or variant it is. PCR can’t even tell if the virus is alive or dead- more modelling bullpoo.

And as for evading the body’s immune response, what does that even mean? Is there a higher percentage of people getting sick?

Also given that it has been flying around for months, why is there no world of this mutant ninja virus in Europe?

In the UK they are selecting random samples from the PCR tests for analysis.
So they can indicate which mutations are being seen as which locations.

But as the PCR test is worthless, so are any conclusions drawn from it.

They see that mutation in the South East (but no doubt they see other mutations too)

And they see increased PCR results in the South East (I won’t even bother to call them infections)

      therefore 2 + 2 = 5

      1. SOQ

As I said- more modelling bullpoo.

How in God’s name Ferguson and his band of mystic megs got anywhere near the British government again, let alone influencing policy, is a mystery.

The only consistent thing about them is that they have got it wrong again and again and again- and not by a bit- by a factor of between 10 and 12.

Colm Henry has no experience in this field, his advice and opinions are worthless

This virus mutated in Brazil in March, did they forget to mention this?

What the hell does ‘we all have to reconsider our Christmas plans’ mean? It’s like this gombeen has just caught a glimpse of every individual’s calendar for the coming week, shook his head and gone ‘oh no no no no no’. He’s the HSE equivalent of the parking attendant in the high-vis jacket with the walkie-talkie.

Id say you feel a letter coming on? Someone should definitely be fired and someone else should do something.

  4. Whatever

Once upon a time I’d ridicule anyone invoking Godwins Law and yet here we are. People denied seeing their loved ones, denied holding their parents hand as they succomb to old age. Grandparents denied seeing their grandchildren. Proposed euthanasia laws. Proposed injections through coercion and health passports (non removable braclets according to Prof O’Neil)

I’m so worried for our future as a species, and not because of Covid, but because of the measures being brought in, leading to the complete erosion of our civil liberties and bodily autonomy. Actually I’m terrified and depressed.

    1. Micko

Don’t worry Whatever, try not to be depressed man.

As I’ve said here before, I have absolutely every faith in the Irish ability to make a complete hames of anything we try to bring in.

Sure look at the Public Service Card disaster. Half of the older databases don’t even talk to each other – and we’re gonna bring in a system for a health passport that every Irish person is going to sign up to?

Once the spring / summer comes in, I’m confident that people will be completely peed off with this entire thing.

I mean there are very, very few dying now, so once the cases start dropping once it gets warmer, things should go back to relative normality pretty quick. There will be zealots still – but sure they’re in the minority. ;)

      (I hope anyway)

      1. Whatever

Thank you Micko. That’s what I thought too during the summer, but now they’ve cranked up the hysteria to overload with this 2nd mutation stuff. I now fear a never ending cycle of new strains, new vaccines and new lockdowns.

At times I fell like I’m living a hybrid of Brave New World (take your soma like a good boy) and 1984 (the never ending war and the crushing of all civil liberties to justify it)

At what point do we say no more? At times I honestly don’t know how much more I can take of this nightmare dystopia.

        1. Micko

I hear ya man. It does seem overwhelming at times. When will it be over and go back to normal?

Honestly though, I do see a lot more people (both online and in my own life) starting to get majorly peed off with the whole thing, so eventually I think it’ll end – just through non complience.

When it gets too much to process I like watching videos like this guy
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWkq7btSQvs

Keeps me sane – hang in there man ;)

  5. An older man

On a side note this am I got biz email advising of shipping problems out of China. In the pepper trade they are warning of severe disruption to supply chain. Now with my finance hat on. How would you create a market to take on dollar debt. Why you would shut the world economy so everyone had to borrow for an unexpected event. Bit like when granny dies and they have to tap the credit union. Create the need, amplify it, roll out the solution. Oh look just fixed the banks. Boi is rocking back these days in the middle of a pandemic. Must be magic. Keep your heads and good health to all.

    1. V AKA Frilly Keane

Let’s see how quick they are around here to laugh at that now AOM

My punt that ongoing lockdowns and restrictions were being used to get people, companies and Governments to borrow
Get loan books up out of the ground
And Get savings spent and cash out the door, kinda thing

At the start of the year finance institutions – of all shapes and sizes, all had the same problem
To much in Deposits that were costing money

A very strong subliminal in Budget 2021 here was all about encouraging domestic borrowing

Let’s see what the experts and party activists around here have to say now
