The votes are in.

Last Friday, with a a €20 Currys PC World voucher redeemable in any Currys store on offer, I asked for your favourite song featuring a harmonica.

You answered in your dozens.

But there could be only one winner.

Third place:

Going Back Home By Dr Feelgood

Harry Warren writes:

“The greatest hard rocking R’n’B band that ever existed. Their ferocious and incendiary performances foreshadowed the emergence of Punk but, by God, could these guys play!
Wait for the superb harmonica break by the late great Lee Brilleaux.”

Runner-up:

Man with Harmonica by Ennio Morricone

Liam writes:

“Man With Harmonica obviously; amazing piece of music from one of the greatest films ever made [Once Upon A Time In The West (1968)]”

Winner:

The Midnight Cowboy Theme by John Barry

axelf writes:

“Without a shadow of doubt the best harmonica tune is the theme from Midnight Cowboy (1969). So beautiful and yet haunting and tinged with sadness. If this doesn’t win, Nick has no soul?!”

Narrator: Nick has a soul.

Nobody could ever accuse me of being a sore loser but that result is the worst kind of insider, cronyistic, double-dealing I have ever seen. I can only imagine that my refusal to relieve Bodger of an onerous task by sleeping with his wife cost me dearly. If I didn’t know how greatly I would be missed I’d flounce off in a hissy fit, but I take my responsibilities seriously, and after all, our back catalogue is vast. My pain is compounded by the malign influence of the chubby warbler who has turned myself and my Jewish friends into raging anti-smithics. Tomorrow is another day and it belongs to me but I don’t want it.

Nice one, completely forgot about the existence of that song. Shall plug and play this afternoon..
