    A cantankerous bunch, well most of them.

    Great story about Paddy Kavanagh in Antoinette Quinn’s biography of the poet on how himself and Brendan Behan fell out (well, it’s speculative but why let the truth get in the way of a good story). Behan used to be in the family painting and decorating business and offered to brighten up Paddy’s digs on Pembroke Road for him. Kavanagh left him at it for the day and upon returning discovered Behan had painted the whole inside of the gaff black ! Friendship terminated …
