The Democratic Unionist Party leader has signalled his party will collapse the Stormont Executive “within weeks” if changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol are not delivered.

Jeffrey Donaldson also announced the DUP’s immediate withdrawal from north-south political institutions established under the Good Friday Agreement.

The moves are part of an intensification of the party’s campaign of opposition to post-Brexit arrangements.

Mr Donaldson issued the warning on the future of Stormont in a keynote address in Belfast on the same day as European Commission Vice President Maroš Šefčovič began a two-day visit to Northern Ireland.

Ahead of any move to pull ministers out of the coalition administration, a step that would bring down the power-sharing institutions, Mr Donaldson said his party was first seeking to challenge the legality of checks on goods arriving in Northern Ireland from Britain introduced under the protocol, and establish whether their implementation requires the approval of the Stormont Executive.

DUP support down to 13%. talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face – another GE would decimate them.

I actually just don’t care about any north politics. they’re all such headers. ya have the DUP, who I think are in a dual power sharing thing. either way, they’re a major party up there.. and they believe in gay conversion therapy. how can ya take a political set-up seriously when one of the main parties is like that?

Deano, they are they are a majority party because they represent the views of the majority of the people.
Irish people would be well served to become more familiar with just how mental it is up here.

‘they are they are a majority party because they USED TO represent the views of the majority of the people’.

They do not represent the majority. They are currently the BIGGEST party.

As you think ‘they couldn’t be so stupid’ they have been this stupid since 1968.

Last sting of a dying wasp.. I feel genuinely sorry for all the good people of NI, unionists, nationalists, nothingists, who have to put up with the irresponsible gobdaw behavior.. it’s taking a long time but there is less of the nut jobs every year…

Be careful what you wish for… this could lead to a border poll and NI could end up out of the UK.

Be careful what you wish for… this could lead to a border poll and DUP could end up a party in the Dáil. Jeffrey Donaldson may end up as a minister!!

So would I- shake the friggers up a bit.

What people don’t understand about the north is with perhaps the exception of the UUP, ALL the other parties are socially left wing, including the DUP. And by that I mean they all support an NHS and affordable housing etc.

I’m pretty sure you haven’t a clue about anything and whatever you say is the case the opposite of that is actually the case.

Surprisingly simple..Take the old Thatcher document and cross out ‘Vietnamese boat people’ and replace as required…

Hey presto 10000 people settled. The plan I’d say is about as up to date as most of the politics. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
