Turn off your mind and float downstream.
Now, fancy another voucherless music kickabout?
That’s what I thought.
This week, with Peter Jackson’s new Beatles documentary making waves, I want to know: what’s your favourite Fab Four song?
Here’s mine.
Please include video links if possible.
Lines MUST close at 10.46pm Saturday Midday.
Nick says: Good luck!
Meanwhile…
Last week, I asked for your favourite song sung in German. Papi won my esteem with this entry.
“A beautiful version of Ave Maria auf Deutsch by Shubert. This is definitely my favourite. It’ll put the hairs up on your neck.”
Nick says: Danke Papi and to everyone who entered.
Last week: Win Nick’s Esteem

Delightful rendition. Fine choice.
…totes worthy winner, Papi…!
Top one…!

Finally, a win I can’t disagree with.

Danke!
Bitteschön, Franz Schubert.
Honestly it’s very hard to pick, anything on the White Album really.
But if I had to pick one I’d go with Dear Prudence.
Especially for the bloody brilliant bass line and pretty great drumming by Ringo, love it when it goes double time at the end.
Deffo a track to listen on headphones.

It is very hard to pick one, so I picked the first one that popped into my head, which I always enjoy.

An extremely difficult choice … like Micko, I can’t fault The White Album. Indeed there isn’t much of their output i can find fault with. Immense band, superb artists and a rich history in the telling and retelling.
I’m going to go with “Back in the USSR” because it’s a great tune and I love the story behind it. At the risk of telling you what you know already Brian Wilson tells how he had to stop whatever it was he was doing when he heard “Strawberry Fields Forever” for the first time he was so blown away. It was the start of a rivalry between him and The Beatles – they spurred him on to greater things and vice versa. So in a response to their brand of California pop that was floating along the airwaves at the time – especially “Surfin’ USA” – The Beatles, displaying their wonderful sense of humour along with their musical chops produced “Back in the USSR.”
My favourite verse from it is:
“Oh, show me ’round your snow-peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy’s farm
Let me hear your balalaikas ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm
I’m back In the U.S.S.R.
Hey, you don’t know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the U.S.S.R.”

My favourite Beatles song from Revolver, their finest album.
This is when they really started broadening their sound and their production techniques. Just listen to the treatment on the drums; almost hypnotic man.

The Beatles are ever present in my house – musically speaking – as I listen to them in one way or another every other day. Twice on Sundays. I remain devoted.
It is, as other have said, very hard to pick a single track.
However for the sake of it, I’ll suggest – in its entirety – ‘the long one’ that is Abbey Road Medley.
Golden Slumbers…. Oh, man….
https://youtu.be/W8uZjeeOcQo
Now, I do appreciate it’s a medley, but given it one single track on vinyl it’s fair game imo.
If you can, just sit yourself down for 15 minutes – preferably with a decent set of headphones – and escape for while. Jesus they were brilliant.
Savage track…your prescription is perfect
I don’t like the Beetles not one bit
congratulations Papi !
Merci Janet!
Volkswagen offer their apologies, Janet.
teehee
You’re not alone Janet. My missus is the same.
They just don’t do anything for her. She’s understands WHY they are brilliant, but just doesn’t like em.
it’s good to know I’m not alone :)

No offence, Bertie.
Inspired by Otis’s ‘cracker’ post – and your spat with Rominick, with whom I agree:

This is an easy one for me despite no shortage of very fine tracks. I don’t have a very close relationship with The Beatles work, despite thinking that they are one of the greatest bands ever formed, and this works for me as occasionally I will come across a track that I’ve never heard of before. Instead of seeking out songs or albums I let them come to me. My song choice is one that I heard without knowing it was the Beatles and it was 4 or 5 years later before I learned the truth. I was in a TK Maxx if I remember correctly and was browsing the aisles, the song was on the stores audio system overhead and I could only hear strains of it. It has a particularly fine guitar solo and this is what stuck in my head. For 4/5 years I could recall the melody from the guitar solo, I would occasionally hum it to myself but alas I had no lyrics to help me find it. After a feed of drink one evening I retired to a friends house where we took turns playing a few records, he got Revolver out and played track number 9, “And your bird can sing”. From the opening bars I knew this was it and the relief was wonderful partly because the suffering was over and I could now hear it whenever I liked. I insisted we play it twice more that night. Looking forward to the documentary.

And your bird can sing
But you don’t get me, you don’t get me”

The Beatles going back to their roots with this paean to the day out, the charabanc coach trip to wherever it may take you. This is such a joyful song. Always leaves me with a pleasant ear worm for the rest of the day.
Sorry I’m late to the party, but my favourite Beatles song is I’ve Just Seen A Face, brilliant from the opening till the end.
I was lucky enough to see Paul in the RDS and he performed this classic!

Rain is also an amazing tune, great pick. Nick!

Does anybody think it’s just a coincidence that there’s a “new” Beatles movie on it’s way?
And does anybody think the title ‘Get Back’ is ironic?
The Beatles belong in the past.
They were good 40+yrs ago.

Since then we’ve had the Frog Chous and Thomas the Tank Engine.
I rest my case.
A coincidence with what?
A tie-in with an imminent Peter Jackson movie perhapsIs this your first day on the internet?
I think your grandkids are trolling you.
Is Jackson making a Beatles movie too
