This morning.
Via The Irish Times:
Mandatory Covid-19 vaccination of healthcare workers is being considered by public health officials as a response to high infection levels.
The issue was raised at a meeting of the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) earlier this month, which agreed to examine “relevant ethical, legal and practical issues before any action is considered”.
The Department of Health is to prepare an evidence paper on the topic to be discussed at a future meeting, according to minutes of Nphet’s meeting on November 11th.
Up to now, the practice has been to remove an unvaccinated healthcare worker from frontline duties…

JUST IN – EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: It's time to "think about mandatory vaccination" against #COVID19 across the entire European Union.

Oh.

About bloody time.
…how about a big round of applause for sara?, broadsheet’s very own… Affront Line Lurker!
Ha ha ha
Sure they can’t even get the workers in the CDC in the States to take the frigging thing
Here’s the director of the CDC dodging the question like Neo dodging a bullet in the feckin Matrix!

Stephen Donnelly could learn a thing or two from this wan.
…I dunno, donnelly is more of a Johnny Mnemonic…
Learns his lines, plays the gig, takes the cheque and leaves.
He’s pure fiction.
He also has reduced brain capacity like Johnny.
But he didn’t have to give up his childhood ;)
…maybe he bumped his noggin falling off one of those inherently risky trampolines as a nipper!
Making vaccines mandatory for those dealing with patients seems sensible to me but no-one should lose their job for refusing to take one if there are other roles they can fill.
It’s a complex issue to legislate for and I’m glad I don’t have to!
At a time when they can ill afford losing staff, sounds like a good idea alright. Also you can still transmit covid to others when vaccinated, so vaccinating staff doesnt even eliminate that risk – routine testing does, vaccinations dont.
The mandates in US hospitals crippled their capability, but they got a good virtue signalling out of it!
Daily testing might be a suitable compromise – I believe Beaumont may offer this at the moment to employees who are reluctant to get the jab.
Is this “evidence paper” to be made public? Probably not.
Why are healthcare staff, (nurse, doctors, front line), and not just in Ireland, but throughout the vaccinated world, very hesitant about taking this vaccine? They are rather skeptic overall.
It seems doubly atrocious to mandate a vaccine for a group of people who have made their decision not to get vaccinated by the damage they see done by the vaccine with their own eyes.
Agreed- we are advised to take medical advice- well, what better than from those who won’t put it into their own bodies?
See my CDC post above.
Never trust a cook who won’t eat their own food…
Actually, the amount of healthcare workers who are hesitant is minuscule. Where I work, 99.8% of staff are fully vaccinated. As usual though, the vast majority of healthcare workers who just want to get on with providing care to all of our patients will be ignored and instead the whines of a tiny minority of cranks will be amplified.
I dispute your use of the word “minuscule” and 99.8% of your health care workers fully vaccinated.
No one is ignoring the majority of healthcare workers doing their jobs and even being respected for it. You, however, going on about “the whines of a tiny minority of cranks” well, let’s just say, I hope I’m never in need of your services. I would consider you a disgrace to any profession.
Ursula von der Leyen said that vaccination is entirely the competence of EU member states but that she believes the EU should have a discussion.
from 11 Nov. minutes of Nphet.
“ There were 34 outbreaks associated with schools notified in week 44 (21 in primary schools, 10 in
secondary, 1 in a special education school, and 2 not specified). However, 32 of these outbreaks occurred during May and June 2021 and were retrospectively notified. No cases were linked to outbreaks in school settings in week 44.”
This needs a court challenge. Make the State present it’s evidence to support their claims that any of these measures are in fact effective and proportionate.
