Ryan Tubridy, Claire Byrne, Pat Kenny and Matt Cooper were among the main winners in the latest Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) survey of radio audiences, with all four presenters consolidating and adding to their pandemic gains.
Newstalk said The Pat Kenny Show had become its biggest ever programme with 184,000 listeners, while Matt Cooper’s drivetime audience on Today FM reached its highest point in a decade, while there were gains too for Radio 1 after last year saw some slippage from the station’s Covid-19 crisis highs.

Yeah, about as accurate as the old ABC circulation figures, which I used to fiddle with ease. Pure fiction.
The numbers are reasonably accurate and they’re audited. RTE Radio 1 has a consistently large audience in a very competitive radio market. Whether critics like it or not Radio 1 has serious credibility with the audience. And there is no news in these figures. There’s a margin of error in professional opinion polls and the variation in the ups and downs of radio audience numbers over the last few years — despite Covid — is all within the ‘margin of error’.

I like nothing more than turning my 27 radios on in the morning, all tuned to different stations and enjoying the cacophony of incoherent babble and noise replicating as it does what goes on inside the capsule that is my inner existence. That’s real freedom folks !!

I asked a group of about ten people today if they had listened to the news recently. I was the only one who had, and that by chance, I was in the car listening to music and the news came on.
The reason I asked is because there wasn’t a single mention of Covid on the news. Absolutely nothing. It was as though it didn’t exist.
…in my day it was all JICNars and JICTars…they did it by the minute…cannot believe Ronan gets quarter million and the lunchtime news doesn’t make the frame…I call bs…
