in 2014, the US led a coup to over throw the democratically elected Ukrainian government. They then installed an anti Russian replacement who would represent the west. It has not been a democracy since then.

      That is your starting point.

        1. bisted

…alleged coup…don’t you mean the time a facist mob attacked the Capital building in Kyiv…surely you recognise the modus operandi Nigel…US president inspired…what flavour was it then?

          1. Nigel

Sorry, months-long street-level popular protests that led to a Russian puppet being deposed by his parliament. I can see why Putin and his apologists would be uneasy about that sort of thing.

        2. K.Cavan

C’mon Nigel, don’t be coy, let your ignorance of history do the talking for you. Well? WTF are you trying to say?
When you’re finished explaining your non-statement, let’s all have a laugh at your attempt to defend the slaughter of a million people in Iraq.
Tell us they did 9/11, yes, do.
Maybe “Saddam was a despot” lol!

An absolute clown show of a tweet, stop pushing Russia to the brink of nuclear war you big bullies!

The bigger conversations about global conflicts, how they’re legitimised through media (mainstream and otherwise, these days) and the rank hypocrisy that underpins society are of course valid and have been raging since pre-Vietnam but teenage brain whataboutism tweets like this are a nonsense.

  2. Nigel

Hah, they’re mad at Fox News for turning on Putin.

The people behind the Iraq War being treated as credible commenters and statespeople is not the most amazing thing anyone has seen on television – it’s been going on for nearly twenty years.

          1. Nigel

No, you don’t and I don’t have to follow your stupid links to find out what you’re currently lying about.

TBF, if you accept the host’s stated premise that invading a sovereign nation is inherently a war crime then Condoleezza and her colleagues have committed it!

Rice should have reframed the question before answering – I’m free to take up a cabinet position if Biden is reading.

Has Fox News as a whole ‘turned on Putin’ ? Their commentator class seemed to be big fans of him.

      1. Nigel

‘TBF, if you accept the host’s stated premise that invading a sovereign nation is inherently a war crime then Condoleezza and her colleagues have committed it! ‘

If George W Bush’s entire administration was hog-tied and placed before the Hague I would be a very happy peon. Throw Blair and Co in while you’re at it.

‘Has Fox News as a whole ‘turned on Putin’ ?’

When they’re wheeling out Rice to say stuff like that, they’re probably softening. Most of their commenters literally have rabies, so I’ve no idea about them.

        1. bisted

…splutter…even Bush and Blair would have to wait their turn behind crooked Hillary, sleepy Joe and Obama…they started eight new wars…even Trump avoided starting any!

          1. Nigel

When you say ‘started’ wars, don’t you mean intervened in pre-existing conflicts? And I’m pretty sure the death and destrution from Bush’s two wars dwarfs Obama’s by some margin, and Trump killed pmety of people without starting any wars, he just removed reporting and oversight first. But the point is, your misogynistic ethnonationalist hatred of Hilary, right?

Stick them in the Hague as well, no objection here, but downplaying Bush because you hate Clinton is just feckin naff.

          2. bisted

…saying I’m misogynistic because I think crooked Hillary is guilty knowingly killing thousands of innocent children sounds a lot like those who oppose the zionist pariah state as being anti-semitic…I am neither…

          3. Nigel

I’m saying you’re misogynistic because years after Hilary Clinton has vanished from the political scene you keep bringing her up in relation to current events, and out of Bush, Cheney, Rice, Blair, Obama, Biden, you single her out. Even comparing her to Trump, you proudly state you never bothered to check how many people his drone warfare and bombing killed while still claiming he was better. I get that it’s also partly because Bill gets the credit for the peace process you think the IRA should have, but tranferring that resentment to Hilary is also misogynistic.

          4. bisted

…I should forget crooked Hillary because she failed to get elected…against Trump…pity you hadn’t shown they same restraint during the Trump years…it took a particular talent to lose to Trump…I believe it was that she was so far ahead in the polls that people didn’t bother voting…same with brexit…but, that’s democracy…
There is nothing more current that the invasion of Ukraine precipated in 2014 by your Democrats…

          5. Nigel

You want to talk about someone who is not currently relevant, but you want me NOT to talk about someone who is. You’re quite the muddle.

Not sure how the Democrats got all those people out on the streets in a foreign country or got the parliament to vote the Putin guy out unanimously but still managed to go on lose to Trump?

  3. Johnny

Again with the failure to understand basic maths.
(The dollar IS the banking system,or should we switch to the real or ruble)

    1. stephen moran

Agreed the $ is the world’s reserve currency (for better or for worse). Everything is priced off and based on the $ from commodity prices to funding levels – in short the $ is the worlds plumbing system. To opine otherwise is naive to put it very politely

      1. Johnny

To post it while our fellow Europeans are getting murdered in the homes is just desperate, regarding Glenn,he’s completely out to lunch claiming Fox is mainstream, ridiculous stuff.

      2. K.Cavan

Up until now, stephen. Some time in the next few weeks, the first major oil deal ever will be done in Rupees, Roubles & Renminbi, the three Rs. Then the biggest annual deals in grain will follow suit. The Petrodollar may not be dead, yet but it’s coughing up blood & will accompany the empire that created it into the toilet of history.
The USA is tearing itself asunder internally, while the most incompetent government it’s ever had destroys its international reputation.
It has cynically used Ukraine as a sacrificial lamb, hoping to gain something, I know not what, beyond driving a wedge between Berlin & Moscow, from pointing the finger at Russia for doing exactly what it did in Cuba. It was right then & Russia is right, now. The equivalence is undeniable.
America, stick a fork in its ass & turn it over, its done.
The saddest, yet lamest thing of all, is that, after the dust has settled, the little lost boys in the Bundestag will have to tell Russia, nicely, that they want the gas, after all, please. They have no choice & never did, they’re just too dumb to know it & in revenge, Russia will price-gouge them, in Roubles, till the pips squeak & Germany’s post-war economic miracle finally hits the skids.
Biden’s long & undistinguished career will get the burial it deserves & he’ll be in a home before his term is up, sitting in a chair, saying “chimate clange” over & over, to himself.
Best of all, Globalism will be done & dusted & the show-trials can finally commence.

  4. Zaccone

So basically “the US did something bad 20 years ago, therefore the Russians are allowed do something bad today”?

That really is spectacular logic. Please inform the Ukrainian civilians dying from Russian bombs today that they deserve to die because of the US invasion of Iraq decades ago.

    1. K.Cavan

Nobody is using the Iraq War to justify the Ukraine War, Zaccone, you’re skipping a step. If the Iraq War can be justified, the Ukraine War, 20% the size, can also be justified & far, far more easily. That’s perfect logic, you’re just misunderstanding it, wilfully or otherwise. Iraq did not represent a direct threat to Washington. Ukraine, acting as a de facto member of NATO, including joint military exercises, is an existential threat to Russia & to Moscow in particular & they told the US & NATO this, as far back as the Clinton presidency. Russia has far more justification for a far smaller action, than the US ever had for carpet-bombing Iraq into the middle-ages. The difference is, you didn’t gave a damn about the brown people in Iraq, did you?
If you did, you’d have no problem at all seeing where the logic leads.

  5. stephen moran

No believe of not according to Steve Bannon’s “Special Correspondent” (see below)the invasion is all Greta Thunberg’s fault……fupping Americans are even thicker than we thought & that’s very very low bar – this chap is also one of Bannon’s braindead posy of experts on vaccines btw ! – roll up for the “Let’s go Charles Darwin” T shirts
this is not a parody btw

  6. K.Cavan

Jeez, Stephen, if you’re going to have a go at the intelligence of some group of people, it might carry more weight if you could actually write it in proper, readable English.
Instead, it’s the weight of all that irony that’s sinking you.
    Fail.
