So we are neutral except when it suits to not be neutral – we don’t want to give the Russians reason to be annoyed at us, yet we also want to rename a street to “free ukraine road”. It’s all a bit cringeworthy to be honest.

Did DCC try to rename streets to free Yemen road when that kicked off?

      1. SOQ

We need more virtue in that (road) signalling, because international geopolitical conflicts are not going to resolve themselves you know?

Tesco chicken Kyivs for lunch btw.

    1. scottser

ah now, we all got a laugh when the iranians renamed the road their tan embassy was on after bobby sands.

    2. Darrens

Presenting the illustration of hypocritical bias does not serve anyone. The relationship of Yemen to Ireland is not so clear and neither is the basis of its domestic struggles or supporting and alliances in its defence assertions… Changing the name of the road is motivated by a public response to a obvious political impasse and not cringe worthy unless you think that state architecture is fundamental to all public discourse.. in which case you’re a fascist

and then she realises shes grown out of the scruffy bit of rough phase anyway ;)

Over the first few days of the invasion of Ukraine there were 27 airstrikes against targets in Yemen, possibly more than in Ukraine. While the UK supplied arms to the Saudis, for use in this war, British TV ads appeared, looking for public donations to avert the humanitarian disaster these arms were creating. That’s a very rarified level of hypocrisy but a common enough reality, these days, when riot police club protestors & trample them with horses, for the Public Health, yet millions of people still believe their governments’ propaganda, delivered through the MSM. They watch the evening propaganda programme & because it’s called “The News” just accept its lies & distortions, without question.

I don’t remember you ever posting anything about Yemen until you needed to do some whataboutery to make excuses for Putin.

  2. Broadbag

This is all a bit bonkers really, lets rename Elgin Rd, home to the US Embassy, ‘Drone Strike Road’ etc…while being 100% anti-Putin and anti this war, a bit of perspective is needed rather than this jingoistic media pile on, just because it’s flavour of the month.

    1. Trustin Judeau

But the Irish love to get pats on the head for being the best boys and girls in class.
This is all part of it – the media has been non-stop on about Ukraine (before that it was covid). Just like we were the most compliant wee nation for covid, so too will we be the most refugee accepting, anti-russian, fuel price rise accepting nation in all of Europe.

Things are going to get a lot worse in this country over following few years, but dont dare complain about not being able to heat your house or drive your car lest you be labelled a nazi.

      1. Big Lump

And 25 thousand died during the shelling of the rebel occupied areas of east Ukraine circa 2014 including use of cluster bombs
I wonder how much outrage then
You can Google the BBC reports of the massacres of innocent civilians then and the outrage about it from the east
But not a peep no renaming of streets no lorry’s being reversed into embassies

    1. bisted

…yeah…go get your own war ratlickers…think they may have just jumped on the wrong bandwagon…

      1. K.Cavan

Well, Me So, you’ll notice that Dolly never refers to Russia, it’s always the Big Bad Mad Man Putin. Her fellow authoritarians are the same, childish reduction of the complexity of international geo-politics down to simplistic fairytales of good Vs bad, black hats Vs white hats. In their state of arrested development, the State is their Daddy & they’re good little boys & girls. They learn that obedience garners praise, so they do what Daddy tells them to, always. “Roll up your sleeves, little boys & girls, Daddy has the magic potion to make the Bad Covid Monster go away”. They see others, less obedient, so they call them nasty names. “Ratlickers, ratlickers”, they chant, unaware that those Bold Children are actually called Adults.
They even whine about this forum, where stories they don’t want to hear are told & the Bold Children disagree with them, giving them hurty feelings. “You must take away these Bad Stories, Daddy will be angry” they say.
        Life is simple for simpletons.

Oh look, basement dwelling incel is having a conversation with his rancid, filth encrusted sock!

          1. Me so Harney

Oh look, mandate hugging basement dwelling incel is having a conversation with itself..

Fade away into dust like your puerile restrictions..

          2. Daisy Chainsaw

You’re so angry since the restrictions were lifted. Good job Putin came along to save you and give your life purpose.

          3. Vlad X. Novichok

That Putin boner snot’s gotta go somewhere. A tube sock under the bed is as good a place as any.

          4. Me so Harney

remind us all again why you were banned from the journal..

            lololololol

            losin’ yer rag so y’ar..

          5. Daisy Chainsaw

Happy to. I posted a link to a picture of the actual site where a scrote killed himself and another lad when they crashed through the metal barrier and then the wall of a primary school because I pass it on the way to work. The Journal had a screengrab from about 250 metres from the school and were deleting lots of comments about the speed they must have been going to destroy a metal fence and concrete wall. You can see where the wall had to be rebuilt here https://www.google.ie/maps/@52.329234,-6.4776174,3a,75y,159.29h,83.2t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sjYwQQtdPVNlUUDhglszlxA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Just as well they crashed in the middle of the night and didn’t kill anyone else.

      2. Daisy Chainsaw

You Trukkistani loyalists must be gutted that the Ukranians have stolen their thunder. Everyone knows the real tyranny is having to wear a mask in Lidl and not Putin’s army bombing humanitarian corridors.

          1. Daisy Chainsaw

Noshing off murderous oligarchs to pwn the libs.

            You antivaxxers really are ridiculous!

          2. Daisy Chainsaw

My little SOQpuppet has a tikkk tokkk for everything. You must have mastered most of the dance crazes by now.

          3. SOQ

As we are deflecting because you have no answers- have you figured out how YouTube works yet?

          4. Daisy Chainsaw

I have no use for tiktok as I’m neither 15 years old or a gullible, swastika supporting, conspiracy freak who’s angry at Twitter for having some standards.

          5. Daisy Chainsaw

Oh my poor deluded little SOQPuppet, I haven’t spent the last 2 years in bed with Irish nazis who brought nooses to your antivaxx/antimask/antilockdown rallies.

    2. K.Cavan

Ah, you see what you’ve done there Dolly?
You’ve made a Vlad comment on your Dolly account, whoops.
I suppose it’s inevitable, when you spend your life online, abusing people for opposition to the State & the Financial Elites, in lieu of an actual Life.
Give up the oul internet, Dolly, before it’s too late.

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

And it only took you 5 and half hours to find it. Were you hiding from the MIBs trying to stick you with the vaccine again?

Go on, tell me why do you have such a hardon for Putin?

        1. Me So Harney

          Lololololololols

          A second account..

          Desperately trying to be relevant..

          Poor little mandate hugging loony

          1. Daisy Chainsaw

You, of all people, laughing about a second account! KCavan’s putrid little mattress dweller… ya couldn’t make it up.

BTW, who do you think my other account is? Whichever answer you give, it’s wrong.

    3. Vlad X. Novichok

Because they’re Toady Choads hot for Putin boner snot. They can’t get enough of it.

“And yet the rage that one felt was an abstract, undirected emotion which could be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blowlamp.”
    ― George Orwell, 1984

    1. K.Cavan

The Media creates this “Free-floating Anxiety”, as psychologists have named it, then helps to direct it at targets chosen by the State & the Elites. Disconnection from the source, the Media, brings almost instant relief.
So, you don’t get to hear about that natural disaster in Indonesia or the anodyne waffling of unelected EU Commissioners & guess what?
      It doesn’t matter.

    BREAKING NEWS:

According to reports on BBC, CNN, BLOOMBERG, REUTERS ETC, an innocent Irish truck was aggressively rear-ended by a pair of heartless Russian GATES

    1. K.Cavan

OMG, Piotar, thoughts & prayers for that poor truck. Is it true it’s a non-binary truck? Their steering wheel is in the middle, rather than on either the left or right, like the old-fashioned, binary trucks.

    1. K.Cavan

Universities are captured, stephen. Nothing that comes out of those taxpayer funded crèches for the emotionally stunted is anything other than comfort blankets for obedient serfs.
Appeals to Authority are logical fallacies for pseudo-intellectuals.

      1. jungleman

Thought you would have an issue with education alright… did you manage to get the inter cert at least?

        1. K.Cavan

At least I’m literate, I can read something & decipher the meaning, jungleman, something which is clearly beyond your limited abilities & is likely to remain that way.
          You creepy weirdo.

  5. SOQ

Just wondering- does the motion in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown to rename Orwell Road ‘Free Ukraine Road’ also apply to the Russian proposal that Ukraine declare itself independent from both Russia and NATO?

Or would that be a too complicated a question to ask?

    1. K.Cavan

It’s waay too complicated, SOQ, I expect you knew that. The West’s plan to turn Ukraine into a launching pad for nukes would free the Ukrainians from having to make a decision, ever again. That’s the special kind of freedom Free Ukraine Road would symbolise, the kind that the rest of Europe has endured, sorry enjoyed, while Uncle Sam babysits.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/emergency-powers-may-be-used-to-house-ukrainian-refugees-1.4820860

Here we go, the government’s Covid emergency powers, which are due to expire in a few weeks, are set to be extended yet again under the pretext of accommodating Ukrainian refugees. If you dare question whether the government really needs to keep their emergency powers to so, then you are surely a heartless [insert expletive here]

‘Emergency powers to bypass planning rules last used during the Covid-19 pandemic to build temporary hospitals and testing centres will likely be used to help find accommodation for refugees fleeing conflict in Ukraine.

“It is likely that these powers may have to be availed of again to address the accommodation and other requirements associated with managing the needs of those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine,” (Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien, said)’

The unending “state of emergency” being imposed upon us is making a mockery of our democracy. We’re being taken for fools.

    1. SOQ

Ah here now- in what way would those powers need ‘to be availed of again to address the accommodation and other requirements associated with managing the needs of those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine’?

      Absolute horse manure.

      1. K.Cavan

The government does need these Emergency Powers, when there’s an R in the month, according to experts.

    2. K.Cavan

Unfortunately, f lawless, their estimation of much of the population is all too accurate.

    3. Cian

      @f_lawless
You are mistaken (what a surprise).

This has nothing to do with the government’s Covid emergency powers, which are due to expire in a few weeks, are set to be extended yet again under the pretext of accommodating Ukrainian refugees.

This is a clause in the Planning and Development Act, 2000 relating specifically to “181 Development by State authorities”.

      https://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2000/act/30/enacted/en/print.html

…or were you actually aware of this and you are peddling fake news?

      1. f_lawless

You’re right Cian. I misinterpreted which specific legislation was being referred to in the article. I got that aspect wrong. No problem admitting it and thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Nevertheless, I still think it’s undeniable that over the past two years Irish democracy – and democracies around the world – have been severely undermined by governments repeatedly granting themselves extensive emergency powers while allowing for little to no parliamentary scrutiny in the process of doing so – nor any accountability for their misuses and failures. We’re now at a point where declaring the need for emergency powers and discarding the need for democratic accountability has become normalised.

I’ve already commented on why I think the phenomenon is happening – world economic system already on the verge of collapse; top-down, technocratic solution is being imposed upon the rest of us; the “state of emergency” is the part of the “shock and awe” style tactics being used to gain citizens’ acquiescence while the transition is carried out, etc, etc

By the way, the “what a surprise” comment is a bit of a cheap shot.. Do you keep a list of examples of where I’ve been mistaken? Nobody gets things right all the time, but I think, by and large, I’ve had a fairly good record in either calling things a certain way which later turn out to be right or in backing my opinions up with accurate and credible sources.

    1. K.Cavan

Hunter’s Daddy was the point man for the CIA coups in Ukraine, which turned the country into a money-laundering operation for drug dealers & tax dodgers. It would’ve been negligent of the hapless Hunter not to go there & fill his boots.
Crack is a hard task-master & expensive. Maybe he should introduce his father to his habit, the drugs don’t seem to be working any more for The C’mon Man.

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

Do you think agents follow people around Ukraine sticking them with drugs too?

        1. Chris

Do you think you could get some new material? Or is boring people to death your new form of epic trolling?

          1. Daisy Chainsaw

Why? Don’t you believe your fellow anti when he says he was stalked and stuck with the vaccine?

          2. Daisy Chainsaw
