“I’ve Done My Bit, Lads”

at

Yesterday afternoon.

Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin 6.

Gardai at the scene during the removal of a lorry which crashed through the gates to the grounds of the Russian Embassy.

Via Irish Times:

The driver of the truck, Co Leitrim businessman Desmond Wisley, was arrested for criminal damage following the incident on Orwell Road in south Dublin. There were no injuries.

I just done this to create a safe corridor for the Russian ambassador to leave Ireland,” he said. “I want the ambassador and his colleagues to leave this country, leave this free country. It’s about time we stood up.”

I’ve done my bit, lads. It’s about time the rest of Ireland done their bit,” he said as he was led away by gardaí.

Mr Wisley is part of a family-run ecclesiastical supplies business, supplying products to churches including wine, bread, altar cloths, banners, candles and vestments.

In an initial statement, a Russian embassy spokeswoman said: “The incident took place in the presence of Garda officers, who stood idle.

“The embassy is in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, demanding that the Irish authorities take comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of its staff and their family members.”

Garda stood idle, what are they meant to do, leap Infront of the truck, shoot out the tyres ?

he would recognise a foolish and unhelpful act if he saw one though, of that there may be no doubt!
I thought the indignation from the embassy over the violation of their sanctum seemed a tad tone deaf all the same.

ah man, what else do you want him or the government to say?
respectfully, it is childish to think he should have said “go on mate!! do it again!” he said what a representan of a state has to say

It made me so happy to see the truck in there but we need to be realistic… despite you support or not Leo or the government they said what they need to say

Coveney said about a week ago he hadnt expelled the criminal ambassador yet because he wanted a direct communication to know the well-being of the Irish citizens in Ukraine… now I thought that was a very very reasonable explanation why those fuckers have not been expelled yet; by now if there is not ONE Irish citizen on Ukrainian soil I think that reason is not valid anymore, there is no excuse

      1. Broadbag

I think he should have said something along the lines of ”we all understand emotions are running high but this isn’t the way to show your anger…blah blah blah” without seeming such a toady cowering at what Russian state propaganda might spin it as – because ultimately, who cares how they spin it?
He wasn’t concerned about his own gung-ho statements last week suggesting we abandon neutrality because that plays well with his pals in Nato and the EU parliament.

edit: freewheeling said it more succinctly below…

  2. freewheeling

He said the incident could be represented on Russian TV as “Irish people being involved in violent acts against Russians.”

No, and we wouldn’t want them thinking we’re not neutral anymore, would we? Or would we? Which is it today Leo?

He dreams of an Ireland that, much like himself, changes it stance based on how the wind blows

    UTTERLY DUMB

That dude might be out this afternoon but rest assured the boys in blue will make sure he waits a LONG TIME before he gets that vehicle back

Is it his livelihood? Is it someone else’s livelihhod? My late father was a trucker. Even one day off the road meant hardship for him.

I think fair play to him, he acted when mostly people just talk

hopefully more accidents happen soon on Orwell Rd soon

Alternatively he could have spent 10 minutes online researching the origins of this operation in Ukraine and then he might have been content to respect Russia’s legitimate right to defend its interests

        1. The Millie Obnoxious™

You seem well informed. Please tell us more about the special military operation and Russia’s legitimate concerns.

          1. Piotr

Sorry Sweety but if this is all news to you, I do not think I will be able to help you. Go back to spending your days watching reruns of Friends

          2. goldenbrown

(well one of them anyway, the other one hasn’t been seen/heard from now in couple of weeks but sure probably be grand)
do me up a list of your informed reasons would you and I’ll drop them a text
            LOL

          3. Piotr

            @GOLDENBROWN

I am sorry to hear about your friends, sir, and I| mean that very sincerely. I hope they are ok. As I hope everyone there – on both sides – survives this ok.

The blame though does not rest on Mr Putin’s shoulders. The blood – and yes there will be blood – is on the hands of the WEST which has used Ukraine as a DISPOSABLE RAG to toy with Putin. This is all a game to BIDEN MACRON JOHNSON etc and the Ukrainians are the playthings. It is truly DISPICABLE.

          4. The Millie Obnoxious™

Aw. Come back! I just want to be friends!

I AM ALSO A GOOD SHOUTY PERSON! BODGER CAN CONFIRM!

        1. scottser

  4. phg

What is the problem here folks, it is a “Special Delivery Operation”. Nothing to see here.

  5. White Dove

Hard to believe this isn’t a Catholic organisation sending a message. But what would a Catholic organisation have to do with ‘supplies’ from the Ukraine?

    1. Hughie Luas

      Back into the USSR.

Can we send the truck to Ukraine or is it surplice to requirements?

  6. Whatever

Truck Driver opposes Direct Provision. Watch binary lefties now abandon their new law breaking hero.

  7. Hughie Luas

Merely clearing a humanitarian corridor for the ambassador to flee, I believe. Seems reasonable.

Don’t they need planning permission for those new crash barriers.

  8. Dr.Fart

    (1) Russians literally lie about everything no matter how small. Even this, they said the Gardai didnt do anything. Why tell this lie? it’s just instinct for them. lie lie lie.

    (2) Vardakar saying this could be viewed by Russia as Irish aggression??? What about him publically saying we shouldn’t be a neutral country anymore? Literally saying we need to get involved militarily.

Tie varadkar to filitov and kick them both in the sea if ya ask me.

    1. SOQ

Lie lie lie- sticking up fake videos and images and even employing actors- sure they couldn’t be trusted.

Oh no wait- that is the other side now isn’t it?

  9. Daisy Chainsaw

It was a stupid thing to do. Embassies are sovereign territory ie, the bit beyond the gate is Russia as per the Vienna Convention. If the Russian staff got a hold of him, they could have done a Khashoggi on him, or maybe they’d have just taken him in for a nice cup of tea (polonium flavoured)
