“We, Ukrainian and foreign journalists, as well as media organizations and NGOs, demand that all measures be taken immediately to end the harassment of journalists who are Ukraine’s greatest allies in this war. We also demand to involve qualified technical specialists and to develop transparent rules for the coverage of Russian shelling. The contribution of journalists is extremely valuable for Ukraine. It is through their work that the world and the citizens of Ukraine learn about Russia’s crimes, about the humanitarian catastrophe they caused, and about the destruction and victims of the Russian shelling. It is thanks to the free and unhindered work of foreign journalists that the world now supports Ukraine. Instead, the Russian dictatorship is making every effort to exterminate independent journalists and newsrooms. Due to systematic unsubstantiated statements by officials and official structures, the society began to see betrayal and “adjustment of fire” in the work of all journalists without exception, which is extremely harmful for Ukraine. We call for immediate resolution of key issues which are necessary to improve the situation with the work of journalists in Ukraine…”

That’s gas. The statement reads like some sort of in-house squabbling in a war-time propaganda operation. There’s not even a pretence of journalistic objectivity: “we journalists who are Ukraine’s greatest allies in this war”, etc.

“It is thanks to the free and unhindered work of foreign journalists that the world now supports Ukraine”
This is misleading. For a start, China and India, the two most populous nations on the planet, haven’t taken sides with Ukraine. And it’s seems a bit ridiculous to frame the work of foreign journalists in western corporate media as “unhindered” when the bottom line is that their role is to bolster narratives – factual or otherwise – aligned to the predatory geopolitical aspirations of the western globalist elite set.

Was this more of a ‘presented without comment’ type post?

      1. SOQ

Yup- anyone who thinks that a video of a dead woman who was tortured and had a swastika painted on her body was fake- should be in the circus for sure.

      2. Nigel

Why shouldn’t they be on the side of the people being attacked by a superior military aggressor with predatory geopolitical aspirations? It’s like being on the side of victims of a natural disaster. Nobody worries about being unfair to the earhtquake. They’re a lot less unhindrerd than anyone in Russian media, that’s for sure.

    2. Mr. T

wait until you see how many journalists have been attacked by Ukrainian territorial militias, accidental or otherwise..

        1. jonjoker

Niggle, that sounds a bit like the English journalists who faked up a Russian attack on some Russians just a few miles from Porton Down.

        2. Duncan Wheeler

Nigels comments get weaker and more flimsy as this goes on. I mean that comment “Russian journalists are faking up evidence as we speak” who is this magical “we” that are speaking? Have you some inside track as to what Russian Journos are up to? I think not. Yet another vacious comment from the usual suspect.

          1. Gerry

They have form, remember when MH17 was shot down and Russian news produced ridiculous faked audio in an attempt to deflect blame.

Btw the word you are looking for in your final sentence is vacuous,

    1. jonjoker

You are really on the ball with all the RW propaganda today!

BTW, has nobody ever mentioned that you are missing “t-” from your username?

    ‘ A star is born ‘
I see Chiedozie Ogbene is being hailed as the new wonder kid of Irish football with a big picture on the front of the IT.
But doesn’t this journeyman 24-year-old play for Rotherham, in the third tier of English football, after spells at Brentford and Exeter ?
In footballing star quality terms he’s more like Brooklyn than David Beckham.
I bet the only thing he’ll kick if Nigeria qualify for the Qatar World Cup is himself.
    Hehx3™

    1. Ronnie

He is absolutely a genuine talent in the Irish squad. Did you miss his acrobatic goal against the best ranked team in the world the other Day?
It’s doesn’t matter which club he plays for in the UK, he is doing his national team proud.

    2. Gerry

He’s fast, he’s direct, and he’s skilful, I like watching him play for Ireland.

Rotherham shmotheram, it’s not like we have forwards from PSG, Bayern and Juve to choose from.

To quote South Pacific’s There is Nothing Like a Dame:

It’s a waste of time to worry
Over things that they have not
We’re thankful for the things they got!

Chargers Sure Have Inferiority Troubles off to an early start this morning. Jimmy Savile’s No.1 fan weighing up his situation.

    4. TenPin Terry

      But I mean Rotherham ?
He went there when he couldn’t get a game with Brentford.
      I mean, Brentford ?
Good luck to the lad in his attempts to help Ireland actually qualify for a tournament but sheesh, Rotherham ?
A step up from the League of Ireland I suppose.
      But I mean, Rotherham ?

      1. TenPin Terry

Talking of young men with the world at their feet word is Declan Rice could be captaining England tonight for the first time.
What a great choice he made in swerving Ireland for the mighty England in 2019.
No brainer really with world cup qualification virtually automatic.
He’s also going to earn West Ham a shedload of money when he’s transferred.
        Rotherham, eh ?

  3. stephen moran

I think they call it “expectations management ” – must be all that cancel culture getting to him but big bad Vlad is working on a much less ambitious project all of a sudden.

FT- in a new evolution to Russia’s position in the ceasefire negotiations, it is no longer requesting Ukraine be “denazified” and is “prepared to let” Kyiv join the EU if it remains militarily non aligned.

    1. SOQ

Define ‘denazified’? If there was anymore spinning in that statement the author would disappear up their own backside. When Zelenskyy is done playing soldiers he will come to the table, the only question is how many lives will be lost in the mean time.

      1. Nigel

‘Denazified’ – a pretext for war so cynically transparent only a complete idiot would take it seriously.

          1. Nigel

What’s the difference between an aggressive invasion of a sovereign state by a superior military imperialst force and denazification?

Nothing, but it gives bisted and SOQ cover to support imperialism and warmongering.

          2. stephen moran

The Azov regiment – one regiment out of a standing army of what 250k plus now tens of thousands of foreign fighters – I’m sure you will find an equal proportion of males with dodgy right wing views in most voluntary armies – like the priesthood and paedos its a magnet

          3. SOQ

As pointed out before Azov do not answer to the government, only receive funding from them. Azov were the first to receive both extra funding and arms from NATO/US of course- because? Details matter.

None of which explains why Zelensky and his handlers refuse to commit to a Ukraine independent from the two blocks- which would leave them in the best position they have been in near a hundred years.

          4. stephen moran

Azov Azov Azov – a tiny fraction of the Ukraine armed forces – Your Russian chums have those well known Social Democrats the Wagner group – Chechen scum and thousands of Assad’s Syrian ragheads – its a war against an fascist invaders for self preservation (you don’t seen to be able or want to able to process that basic point) –

          5. SOQ

Spin it all you want but they are what the Russians are going after and, given that the majority of the Ukrainian army are inexperienced conscripts, they are a very important part of it. An army is not just a body count.

    2. jonjoker

I’d say the FT has a direct line to the Kremlin alright.

One thing I’m pretty sure of though is that Zelenski doesn’t seem to be eating at home much these days. As the entertainer he is, he seems to be enjoying the limelight of being on tour; just this time he is being feted in all the western capitals instead of grotty hotels around Ukraine.

It sure is an interesting way of sharing his compatriots’ suffering.

      1. SOQ

Only if you care about them in the first place- Zelenskyy is clearly a narcissist, which explains the grandiose demands made to other countries.

      2. Gerry

He refused offers of safe passage out and is speaking by video link, where are you getting your information?

  4. Hughie Luas

    File under WTF

Leon Panetta says on CNN that Biden’s gaffe in Europe about regime change came about because Biden is Irish, and his instinct to internalize human suffering may have overwhelmed him to the point where he was not careful about what he said. Biden needs more discipline Panetta says

  6. Steph Pinker

Nice photo on the front of the Irish Examiner, but as a sporty type I could do the same with two balls and my eyes closed.

    1. Steph Pinker

… on a serious note: Ireland’s withdrawal of a bid on America’s Cup is one of many things which make this country a S*******.

      1. stephen moran

yep agreed- it’s elitist apparently – but it’s okay to throw millions of quid at poxy golf – global Ireland

        1. Steph Pinker

Ironically, that’s why it’s classed as *elitist* because yachting and sailing – of the non-fishing kind – aren’t encouraged on this island. A child can learn to sail in a dinghy on inland rivers/lakes and progress from there, many do, and it’s a healthy outdoor sport which suits those of any age regardless of financial income.

  7. stephen moran

And according to man of the people to RIchi S – who doesn’t actually drive a Kia but an “old Golf” (ahem HMV liar liar liar) – ““It was always inevitable we would be poorer after Brexit” – odd how that was missing from the side of the bus.

Spot the odd one out – I wonder what Jacob Smirk Reek would say ?

Some interesting wordplay in the IT on the current Covid wave.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/covid-19-coalition-under-pressure-to-look-again-at-restrictions-as-ba-2-subvariant-proliferates-1.4838639

“Sources said he told the Fianna Fáil meeting that about half the 54 people in critical care units who had Covid were there because of the virus, and that about the same number were not fully vaccinated.”

So about half of the 54 were in ICU because of Covid (so about 27), and about the same number were not fully vaccinated (about 27). The inference clearly being that its the unvaccinated “clogging up ICU”. Yet, we’ve no way of knowing from what he says if it is the same 27 in both groups, or even if there is a single crossover between the two.

For all we know, it could be the 27 remaining who are not in ICU due to Covid who are not “fully vaccinated”. What constitutes “fully vaccinated” is also undefined. Is a double vaxxed person i.e no third shot, not fully vaccinated? Would a person who has received their 3rd shot but has not gone 2 weeks post booster also considered not fully vaccinated?

They simply cannot stop their ridiculous attempts to justify their vaccine zealotry and disgusting treatment of those who decline the crap vaccines.

How many will read that article and not recognise the clear ambiguity and agenda driven wordplay?

  10. SOQ

The poisoning of Abramovich proves that some people do not want peace. How many lives did that action cost since then?

Putin’s long table and not eating in public may make a little more sense now perhaps?

    1. stephen moran

Russia are fighting because they want to conquer large swathes of another sovereign independent country in violation of international law to fulfill some neo-Czarist fantasy of redrawing the Eurasian map, Ukraine are fighting to defend themselves from a hostile invader and to survive. One can stop at anytime of their choosing. The other can not. Russia are the side showing a total disregard for civilian causalities.

          1. SOQ

US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland’s Senate testimony has already confirmed that there is US owned Bio Labs in Ukraine, and that they contain highly dangerous pathogens.

Do try to keep up dear?

          2. Nigel

The existence of the biolabs – not in question.

The fact that biolabs contain pathogens – quite normal, for biolabs.

You moving the goalposts from bioweapons to pathogens – utterly dishonest.

          3. SOQ

Time will tell if they are a lethal treat- but if they are, you can be sure as hell the evidence will not come from the US side.

If nothing to hide then why the reluctance to letting the independent auditors in, as the Russians are demanding?

          4. anti bot

Ah go on soq, instead of spouting, can you please respond as to why its OK to invade a sovereign state? Please, I dare you to dabate

        1. Nigel

Everything to do with the breakaway conflicts – they were engineered, funded and armed by Putin. I expect they spurred Ukraine’s efforts to join NATO.

Nothing to do with biolabs – that started as a Qanon conspiracy.

Russia are fighting for an empire, Ukraine are fighting to survive. You only condemn and blame the latter.

        2. stephen moran

In one extrapolates the logic of your arguments regarding Ukraine’s sovereign independence then Ireland would still be an unwilling part of the UK and the state of Israel has no right to exist. Indeed the UK would have had due cause to invade Ireland

          1. SOQ

Extrapolate the logic of my argument to Russia or China meddling in Mexico’s affairs beside the US border- and see how long is is before the entire country is razed to the ground.

          2. Nigel

So you’d be okay with that? You;d support it and justify it the way you’re justifying the razing of Ukraine?

        3. anti bot

so nordie, just that justify an invasion of a sovereign state and massacre of innocent people. Ah go on, respond dear.

          1. anti bot

na, no response as usual. You really are a troll. Worse than Charger who we all know is taking the wee

      1. jonjoker

Sure, we know that Russia wants to conquer some of Ukraine; maybe all of it.
It previously conquered SE Ukraine back in the 18th century, when it was the independent/autonomous Crimean Khanate under Turkish suzerainity.
How do you feel about the USA? What right does it have to exist, as 100% of its territory is conquered land. But maybe might is right in their case?

        1. stephen moran

Yep, I’m told the Mongols are looking for a bit of land back which they occupied for a few hundred years. The African Union has said many times that whilst they don’t like the borders arbitrarily assigned to them they have they work with them as otherwise there would be perpetual conflict between nations . You’d literally end up with totally economically unviable statelets if you ended up granting independence to every sub ethnic / religious / linguistic minority in the world

    2. Broadbag

”Putin’s long table and not eating in public may make a little more sense now perhaps?”

Yes indeed – silly old Vlad has sent so many poisoners out there into the world he can’t keep track of them all, the little scamp!

      1. stephen moran

Bring a pack lunch – they don’t like backchannels going all soft on them – A Salisbury ice cream sundae or the old Jon West salmon souffle ?

        1. Broadbag

To be on the safe side I’d eat/drink nothing and ideally pop on a gas mask when not speaking.

        2. jonjoker

“A Salisbury ice cream sundae or the old Jon West salmon souffle”
Direct from the kitchens of Porton Down.

      2. Gerry

But in these cases We still have judgment here; that we but teach Bloody instructions, which, being taught, return To plague the inventor: this even-handed justice Commends the ingredients of our poison’d chalice To our own lips

The dire state of Ireland’s military has been laid bear by news that a third of its navy is to be decommissioned – having spent years rusting away in Haulbowline with no crew to sail them.
The reality is Ireland can barely muster enough bodies to put a couple of its tubs to sea instead of the dozen that are required.
Worse still they can’t even give the three boats away because even the most tinpot banana republic wouldn’t touch the rusting hulks with a bargepole.
The recent Commission on the Defence Forces report recommended a significant expansion and modernisation of the Naval Service.
In reality the only thing likely to happen is another comission recommendation – that the Naval Service should be renamed the Irish Navy.
But at least there’ll be a nice little ceremony.
Captain Pugwash Coveney does like a nice little ceremony.
I wonder if those Cork fishermen will be invited along.

    1. stephen moran

Military expenditure for an small country is a sunk capital cost with no positive spillovers unlike the US (MIC) with massive R&D budgets, (with domestic tech applications) massive overseas arms sales (F 35’s to Canada announced yesterday) and of course the simple fact you are buying tour own stuff. We will continue to be a free rider from NATO and a beneficiary of our lucky geography at the western fringe of eurotrash conflicts.

    1. anti bot

Good man, spend your time on the Web, but can’t answer a simple question/enter a debate. how old you?

  12. TenPin Terry

Best joke so far on the Smith slap incident. The Tyneside accent is important.

    [interior: a pub on Tyneside]

    ” Javier Bardem? ”

” No, but the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has opened a formal review. “

      … way too soon.

Give it a few years of defamation suits and it’ll be grand.
