President Michael D Higgins officially unveiled the newly-restored Eire 6 wartime neutrality sign, one of 83 aerial recognition signs built around the Irish coast during the Second World War to alert aircraft they were approaching Irish territory.
Long buried, the Howth sign has now been restored by the local community, as a mark of respect to those who served in defence of our neutrality.

We weren’t really neutral 100% during WWII. Militarily we were but we treated Allied airmen differently than Germans when they crashed here. We send aid up to the north when Belfast was bombed. There was no question we leaned to the allies.
We have remained militarily neutral which is what is in the constitution.
The idea of neutrality is antiquated in this day and age, ireland must be ready to do its part in defence of the EU against russian invasions.

Depends on what you think Russia’s goals are. If destruction of the Ukrainian military, full control over the Eastern regions such as Donbass, and a land bridge between those regions and Crimea are objectives, they’re doing quite well. Undoubtedly they’ve taken heavy losses and suffered defeats to Ukrainian forces but that’s to be expected from a NATO trained and equipped army of a quarter of a million troops, with an additional 300k security, territorial and reserves forces. Be careful of believing Russian objectives are what Western and NATO media tell us they are. All sides are pushing heavy propaganda during this conflict.
I totally agree with you on our neutrality. We must be prepared to push back strongly against this concerted propaganda campaign against it emanating from the Dail, The IT, RTE etc…They’re using the Ukraine conflict to push it through.

NATO caused this war with its lies, it’s aggressive expansion towards Russia’s borders & it’s attempt to arm Ukraine with nuclear weapons, the most evil invention of humanity. NATO supported, trained & armed Nazis, actual Nazis, not the ones lunatics like Dolly see everywhere, actual mass-murdering psychopaths, I’ve seen some of the things they’ve done & my eyes are still burning, pictures that no newspaper or website would publish, such is the horror & degredation shown.
All of this was completely illegal under international law, Ukraine having never joined NATO, but the evil warmongering Americans, who’ve engaged in wars with almost every country on the planet in their short existence, don’t care for the rule of law or the UN or any of that, unless it suits them. There are people who’ve worked for the White House & The Pentagon who are the equal of any Nazi, any Marxist, any evil totalitarian, for the war crimes they’ve committed. You’d have to be living under a rock not to know this.
Russia has more than enough justification to attack NATO & even without Nukes, they have WMDs that could devastate Europe & that we are defenceless against. Europe has no army that can stand in their way, do you actually realise how weak we are, militarily? They could launch hypersonic missiles at Berlin or Paris that, once launched, cannot be stopped by any force on earth & hit their targets at close to 10,000 kilometres per hour, turning buildings to dust & liquifying human flesh.
Some might want to dip their toe into this fight that has nothing to do with us, that uses Ukrainians as cannon fodder to allow our corrupted media & political class to ponce around, claiming the high moral ground but that just makes them fools who probably deserve to die in the most horrific way that modern warfare can provide but I want nothing to do with such insanity, I want to live to see my grandchildren born. If they really want to die, they can throw themselves off a high building, no decent human beings eant any part of their stupid death-wish.
We need to be the adults in the room, the voice of reason, NATO’s constant aggression, it’s Cold War mentality has reaped the whirlwind for the unfortunate Ukrainians but, in truth, there’s something wrong with any nation that produces the likes of the Azovs, in this day & age, people who actually proudly fly the Swastika, people from a nation that holds second place for the number of Jews massacred in one pogrom.
Soon, the sanctions will start to really bite, not on Russia, where the Rouble is now slightly higher than its pre-war position but here, in Europe, who’s citizens are next in line to be used by the warmongering elites in Brussels & Washington & to what purpose? It’s a complete waste of time, Russia sent in 200,000 troops, against an army of 600,000 & will have achieved their aims by the end of the month.
Ukraine will be neutral, just like Ireland should remain.
