I see a lot of raw vids from both sides. The body pits of butchered Ukrainian soldiers of all ages should wake the irish up. Imagine them as Sean Pat’ or Seamus. We can NOT fight anyone not even draw. We are acting like the children in a school yard fight. Egging the participants on terrified that it could be us. Today we are a fearful people. A better approach would be to act as peace makers maybe to lever off our NI journey. We might get better cudos on the world stage rather than being seen as the runt of an attacking pack of rabid dogs.

Agreed- the objective is to get Ireland into NATO and they are wrecking Ireland’s peace keeping reputation in the process. IMO Geraldine O’Callaghan’s tweet is way more in line with the average Irish person than O’Toole’s- and definately more so than Coveneys. They have no right to drag us into that mess.

Interesting that O’Toole describes himself as a socialist- by championing NATO and sanctions which in the main will hurt poor people most? Weird.

    ‘we’re a neutral country’
i believe they call it ‘pragmatic neutrality’ – we’re really about as neutral as 3rd gear.

  3. Ah sure jaysus you know yourself

Can I just ask, who are these people and why would anyone care! Christ I hate Twatter

Put it to a vote…. Not a TD vote but a people’s vote if we are going to drop our neutral status. We maintained our neutrality in ww2. Lots of Irish signed up to the Allies to fight. If the vote is to remain neutral then an Irish citizen can still go and fight. If you hold an Irish passport then the decision should be made by the people. I would respect the outcome myself after that. I favour diplomacy and I think there should be at least one country promoting this route instead of ratcheting up the stakes at every chance. No one wins in an a out war.

“There is no neutrality when Ukrainians face the brutal aggression shown them by Putin’s Russia.”

Eh, yes there is. Its the very definition of neutrality!
You cannot pick and choose when your neutrality suits, you are either neutral or you simply havent been bothered to take sides before.

I shook my head when Desmond mentioned “your personal sense of privilege” in his response. He is talking about taking a neutral country and putting it on a war footing. He does not speak for Ireland and does not have any right to put us into a war. Ireland has its faults but is a brilliant country and a few people will not put us on a war footing without the will of the people behind them. Simon also represents a neutral country and should take a lesson in diplomatic language and understand Ireland role and not his personal views.

It’s in the surname, just a tool with a twit account. Complete lack of self awareness calling Geraldene priviledged.

..You work for us, the Irish people and we stay neutral….

Simon has never worked a day in his life.

    …back of the net Simon.

” Dublin welcomed 135 new financial companies between mid-2016 and early 2021, equating to one-quarter of all Brexit-related moves. This was followed by Paris with 102 relocations, Luxembourg with 95, Frankfurt with 63 and Amsterdam with 48…..
In December 2021, it was announced that Ireland would receive $966m (€911.54) from a European Commission fund designed to ‘mitigate the impact of Brexit”

    bloody marvelous.

Simon and his failure of a brother have priviledge in their genes. Both have proven to be abject failures.Patrick Coveney practically single handedly destroyed the share value of Greencore after a series of disasterous decisions. You applaud Brexit fallout with financial companies moving here in droves. They who will be paying minimal taxes and make/produce nothing. Just churning cash money through the system for more monopoly money. They are the Irish twin Wizards of Odd. All flash with nothing to back it up.

..he’s just so shockingly tall and well built, straight outta central casting, argubly the greatest statesman and diplomat of his and any Irish generation.
By what metric would describe the leader in waiting of FG,as a abject failure,he’s a very skilled sailor, wealthy, raconteur and a dreadful gossip,if you have something nasty to say about someone, stand next Simon.

The John Fitzgerald in your link – is that Garret’s son? Of ESRI infamy?

Whenever I read anything he has written, I always think of how Garret ‘ran’ Aer Lingus , and how he sent hundreds of thousand across the water during his stints in government in the 1980s.

I wouldn’t really expect deep thinking or groundbreaking research from Garret’s son – more likely more of the same – emigration for us, ansbacher accounts for them in the 80s. Today the model is slightly different – renting in perpetuity for us, ever-increasing property values for them.

…i do often like start my morning reading the IT,its’ a good piece, most the time im just happy to be able to make out the words and concentrate,i rarely if ever think about his da,but there is some great background on the lifelong feud in Murphy’s biography of Charlie.

Anyone labouring under the delusion that Coveney or anyone in our government, works for us, after the last two & a half years, must’ve been dropped on their heads as babies. A lot. It’s an interesting question, though, who does he work for? Bilderburg? The EU? The WEF? Washington? Bill Gates? Persons Unknown?
His disloyalty, his utter disregard, for his erstwhile employer, wasn’t just licked off the stones, however, it’s sprung, all guns blazing, from our own susceptibility to being propagandised into bloodthirsty warmongering by our mass media, who’ve been able to get Irish people supporting an actual, real-life, Nazi killing machine that has murdered thousands of steelworkers, miners, teachers, housewives, babies & babooshkas over the last 8 years, because of their ethnicity, throwing aside a neutrality that once gave us pride of place when the UN needed peacekeepers. Not by means of a complex psyops, though, just wind us up & point us at the target.
My local church has a Ukrainian flag flying, not the one emblazoned with the Swastika, as displayed by Azov & Ajdar battalions, of course, just the plain one but WTF is a church doing, taking sides in a war?
Most of Europe now belongs to the NATO Cold War Revival Movement, one of the main reasons this war is actually in progress & the rest of The West is exhibiting more & more neo-fascist tendencies in how it’s governed. The other seven-eights of the planet, however, seems unaffected & indeed has virtually turned their backs on us, rejecting Washington’s insistence on a Hybrid War against Russia, out of hand.
All of this enthusiastic support for a war that is literally nothing to do with us is going to start to have effects in real life, soon. Already creaking under the insanity of economic shut-downs, justified by a fake pandemic, our economy lies in tatters & the very real prospects of people freezing to death or going hungry, take your pick, looms.
Watching von der Layen blithely explain that weaning ourselves off Russian energy “will be hard” is just sickening. It won’t be hard on her & if it’s so hard, why do it? It’s not going to leave Russia wondering what to do with all that oil & Ukraine is now an historical entity, it’s future has already been decided, mostly by its own actions, albeit under the auspices of the CIA, it’s a done deal, no matter how much misery we heap on ourselves, in response.

    1. SOQ

von der Layen is an idiot, absolutely clueless. She is behind the blacklisting of the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox church. In one single action she has pee’d off the entire Russian Orthodox community and jacked up Putin’s ratings by about 5%. Do these people not think at all?

And then there is the sanctions- who exactly are they going to hurt? Not China and India, that much is for certain, they are more than happy with the way things are going. Germany will go into spasms when the gas goes off.

Is there a list of WEF people in Ireland somewhere? I can’t seem to find any details- even the website points to London.
