Of whom we are intolerant.

The Ireland United for Life Alliance is to urge the electorate to vote for anti-abortion candidates as, according to Dana, some 70 per cent of the voting public opposed abortion and “that would correlate to 1.2 million voters”.

It was one of the moments of the election.

The old lady who asked Michael Martin could he live on €230 a week.

TV3 featured the entire exchange – lasting 32 seconds – on its 5.30pm bulletin.

It was electric viewing.

So – not to want to sound too Max Keiser about it – why on earth did RTE – on its 6.01pm and 9pm bulletins – edit her out off after TWO seconds?

Answers to the usual address.

Director Richard Ayoade (yes, him off The IT Crowd), Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige kickstarted the Jameson International Dublin Film Festival last night at the Savoy in Dublin with the premiere of Richard’s movie Submarine.

It follows a 15-year old boy (Craig)  with two objectives: to lose his virginity to the girl of his dreams (Yasmin) before his next birthday, and to stop his mother (Sally Hawkins) from leaving his father and hooking up with a new age mystic (Paddy Considine). We’ve all been there.

It also features original songs by Alex Turner. It doesn’t really get more hipster than this.

They’re ushering in a new era of low taxes, stag hunting and zero tolerance towards gay marriage. Yes, they’re the Fine Gael backroom team.

They are the generals of the FG ‘war room’. They’re the guys who prevent Leo Varadkar from wearing leather on the campaign trail and they control Enda like Eugene Lambert used to control Judge.

And they simply cannot believe their luck.

Economist Max Keiser

“The biggest problem Ireland has is RTÉ, the state broadcaster. [Economist] David McWilliams can appear in a 100 theatres across the country and light up the stage with brilliant analysis and provocative insights into the financial mess Ireland finds itself. He can write books, host festivals and appear on dozens of TV shows. And all that work gets overshadowed by an act of omission by RTÉ who refuse to report on the financial rape of Ireland by crooks that should be in jail.

Two years ago I was asked to appear on RTE. Leading up to the interview, while I was on hold waiting to be introduced, I was asked to give a summary of my views. I explained that an IMF bailout was coming if the country did not start to take these criminal bankers seriously. They reversed the invitation, hung up on me and have never called back.

It’s a shame. When the end comes RTÉ will still be giving the farm reports and dandy stories of local cheese makers that could have been recorded 50 years ago and nobody will know the difference or care.

“Why anyone supports RTE is a mystery. Save your money and buy yourself a ticket out like so many are doing – due in large part – to RTE’s refusal to simply report the news in a responsible manner”

RT‘s Max Keiser responding to this article posted yesterday by David McWilliams.

You’ll remember Fintan O’Toole’s coruscating review of God of Carnage at the Gate.

It was so uncharacteristically foul-tempered it was as if its author had recently been publicly humiliated and needed to vent. About anything.

And you might recall the subsequent letter to the Irish Times from cast member Ardal O’Hanlon.

A letter which surprisingly contained no humour and, in its vituperation, positively out-Fintaned Fintan.

This, as night follows day, provoked Fintan to Tweet:

Get him, etc.

And there was more:

Broadsheet went along to the Gate to see what all the fuss was about. We had a rollicking night. One character did ring a bell. A ferocious politically correct bore.

The type of man who would cancel a revolution because he couldn’t find a childminder.

As Nat remarked after the first act: “Now, that’s what I call Swiftian.”
