This weekend offers a great opportunity to visit the stripped back Octagonal Room of the City Assembly House on South William Street, Dublin (just opposite Grogan’s pub!) – the first purpose built public gallery in Ireland and Britain [1771] – before it begins its next stage of renovation early next year by the Irish Georgian Society.

The current Describing Architecture show is the second part of an exhibition exploring the theme ‘Memory and Place’, containing drawings and models by architects and graduates, alongside work from a broad spectrum of national and international artists in painting, photography, mixed-media and film. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to see ‘Nenagh College Mapestry’; a Per Cent for Art commission depicting the interwoven life and social spaces of a new school, that has been transported to the Octagonal Room (top). Exhibition open daily till Sunday, 12 – 6pm…
