The European Parliament has approved the nomination of @McGuinnessEU as EU Commissioner. MEPs voted by secret ballot. The Council now has to approve by written procedure which it’s likely to do on Friday or Monday pic.twitter.com/70fcn8Bwx1

This afternoon.
As expected, Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness is approved by fellow MEPS to become Ireland’s European Commissioner (for ‘Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union’).
It’s a new dawn. Rejoice.
