The Mariannes (above performing ‘Black Diary Waltz’) are a Dublin based band with a distinctive style of “urban Irish folk with songs that tell beautifully tragic tales”.

Tonight The Mariannes launch their EP ‘Lost With All Hands’ (with support from The Rattling Kind) at Whelan’s Main Venue, 8pm, tickets €10.

Also: lovely posterage, in fairness.

Ronan Casey (above) and de invite to his buke launch TONIGHT

Medium Sized Town, Fairly Big Storya is a collection of the best stories and headlines from Ireland’s local newspapers by smudge-fingered writer and broadcaster Ronan Casey.

Where?

The Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar obviously.

Ronan writes;

The book is out now (no, 24 in the charts!). Hector Ó’hEochagáin is launching the book. I was part of his 2Fm team until we were all sacke… until we left RTE to pursue other interests last year. Hector describes the book as a ‘window on the real soul of Ireland, a snapshot of the way we were, the way we are and, hopefully, the way we always will be’. The launch is open to the public and books will be on sale from Stella Lynch of Just Books on the night. Free wine and water.

I’m running a little event in the Lost Society [South William Street, Dublin] TOMORROW night  to raise some money and get a few beds for the homeless over the Christmas period. With three of Dublin’s finest disk jockeys taking the reigns, for the night, you’ll be looking at the finest spread of Disco/Edits from Billy Scurry, Kelly-Anne Byrne and 4wrd Grad.
The proceeds of the night are being used to help bed the homeless over the bitter season, and the remainder going towards the publishing of a Homeless Survival guide…
