Ireland took silver in the Lacrosse European Championships on Saturday

Conor Walsh writes:

Just want to say thank you for posting about us during the tournament. We entered the tournament as the 6th seed with nobody expecting us to do well. We opened the campaign with 3 tough losses but managed to turn it around and came away as Silver Medalists (see Brendan Walsh, no relation, above). For anyone who has seen the posts and is interested in taking up lacrosse should go to IrelandLacrosse for more information. All ages and all skill levels are encouraged to start playing and who knows, maybe in 4 years time we will be champions of Europe.

We beat Sweden this evening 13 – 8 and now face England in the final tomorrow at 6pm Irish time. It doesn’t get much bigger than this. The game will be available live online here for €3. Thanks for all the help getting the word out.

Update:

European Lacrosse Championship 2012

Setting up a metaphor-laden quarter final with Germany.

You may be following our lacrosse coverage.

Conor Walsh, who plays for the Ireland lacrosse team competing at the European Championship in Amsterdam, writes:

We beat Slovakia today fairly comfortably and now face Germany in the Quarter Finals tomorrow afternoon at 4pm Irish Time. The game will be available live online here for €3. We played Germany in the group stages and lost by one goal in triple sudden death overtime. Hopefully we have learned from the last game and will be able to pull off a win and progress to the semi finals on Thursday.  Thanks for the the support.

You may recall last week’s post from Conor Walsh, who plays for the Ireland lacrosse team, currently competing in the lacrosse European Championship in Amsterdam.

Conor writes:

I promised to keep you updated on our results as we go, but it has been really hectic since we got to Amsterdam. We have a game every day which leaves little time for sending emails.

We have finished 3rd in the top division with wins over Sweden (12 – 4) and Finland (8 – 7 in quadruple sudden death overtime). We lost out to England (11 – 7), Netherlands (11 – 7) and Germany (12 – 11 in triple sudden death overtime).

Tomorrow we play Slovakia for a place in the Quarter Finals which will be against Germany on Wednesday.

Great if you could post an update about it, so we can garner some support back home.

STOP!

Folding that tricolour.

Conor Walsh writes:

I play lacrosse for Ireland and we will be competing at the European Lacrosse Championships in just over week’s time in Amsterdam.

This will be the first time that the Euros have a tiered group stage and Ireland are in the top division alongside England, The Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Sweden.

We are in the Top 10 in the world rankings after a 9th place finish in the World Championships in 2010. We finished 7th in the last Euros in 2008 and we are hoping to improve on that with a medal-winning finish in the Netherlands..

Training camp starts tomorrow, June 16, with our opening game against current holders England on June 20.

We will be competing alongside the Women’s team who are grouped against England, Austria, The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.

It would be really great to get some publicity to help garner some support for both teams ahead of what will hopefully be a successful campaign at a major sports event.
