Nick Cave pays tribute to Screaming Trees frontman and grunge pioneer Mark Lanegan, who died at home in Killarney, county Kerry last weekend.

Last night.

Mark Lanegan, the singer for grunge pioneers Screaming Trees and frequent vocalist for Queens of the Stone Age, died yesterday Morning at his home in Killarney, county Kerry. He was 57. A cause of death was not disclosed.

This (above) was one of his last performances for Other Voices in Dingle, county Kerry.

Shortly after the publication of his 2020 memoir Sing Backwards and Weep, a raw, harrowing saga of addiction, destitution and grief, Lanegan and his wife Shelley Brien moved from California to Killarney, a place they’d first visited when they appeared on Other Voices in 2004.

“A friend of mine had a house here. When I became reacquainted with the physical beauty of the place and made some really good friends right off the bat, the warmth of those people made it an easy place to stay. Sometimes I have trouble with the high voice accent, but I’m learning…”
