Legendary bassist Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn died in Japan on Saturday aged 70.
Fellow MGs guitarist Steve Cropper (who starred alongside Dunn in The Blues Brothers) announced the news on his Facebook page:
“Today I lost my best friend, the world has lost the best guy and bass player to ever live,” Cropper, his lifelong friend, wrote. “Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club.”
Singer and actress Whitney Houston, a winner of six Grammy Awards including record of the year for “I Will Always Love You” and album of the year for “The Bodyguard,” has died at age 48, a spokeswoman for the singer said.
“Unfortunately it is true,” said spokeswoman Jill Fritzo.
No other details were immediately available.
Celebrity website TMZ.com said Houston was found dead at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

Sir Jimmy Savile has died at his home aged 84. The former presenter, most famous for his show Jim’ll Fix It, passed away at his home in Roundhay, Leeds.
Sir Jimmy was just two days away from his 85th birthday.
