Early on the morning of July 15, Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang lit the base of a 500 metre long ladder coated with fast burning fuses and gold fireworks that attached to a huge helium filled balloon that had ascended into the sky above Huiyu Island Harbour, Quanzhou.
The impressive pyrotechnic, called Sky Ladder, burned for two and a half minutes – the most successful to date of four similar displays attempted by the artist in various locations around the world since 1994.
Beyond the two shaky iPhone videos above, no official film of the event has yet emerged.
