Met Eireann’s Evelyn Cusack and Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy speaking to the media about Storm Jorge which is hitting Ireland with 8 warnings, including red, in place bringing ‘severe and damaging’ gusts, thunder, flooding to Clare and Galway with an Orange warning for everywhere else.

This afternoon.

Minister for Local Government Eoghan Murphy advised those in coastal areas to stay away from the sea. He said there was a risk of increased flooding, fallen trees and power outages and he advised people to monitor Met Éireann’s updates.

Met Éireann Head of Forecasting Evelyn Cusack said the wind warning “may be extended to across the Midlands and East for two hours tomorrow afternoon”.

Met Éireann issued four weather warnings.

One Status Orange wind warning is for Galway, Mayo, Clare and Kerry and will be valid from 6am Saturday until 3am Sunday.

A second Status Orange wind warning is for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo, from noon Saturday until 3am Sunday.

A Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for Munster, Connacht and Donegal, from midnight tomorrow night until midnight on Saturday.

A Status Yellow wind warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford from 9am Saturday until 3am Sunday.
