I know you don’t normally do this… but I am the Chairperson of the Irish Chess Union and we will soon be running the Espion Irish Junior Chess Championships. It will be held from the 1-3 April and as an added bonus we will be offering any student who is entering their first ICU event a free chess set and board to give to their school. The event will be held in the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney, Co. Dublin.

Further details of our offer can be found here.

We would highlight the three 1-day competitions on Sunday 3rd, the Irish U-8 championships and the u10 and u12 challengers “rapid” events. These three events are for those less used to longer games with games lasting 30 minutes. Players will receive the same amount of games as they are never knocked out of an event. There are also other attractions on Sunday such as talks, coaching and even a competition for parents and teachers.

I’m hoping to bring my kids along on the Sunday. Sounds like a perfect introduction to chess – relaxed environment and some fun events for the kids. Might even play in the parents’/teachers’ event myself!
