What’s going at TV3? John Gormley this morning became the latest victim party leader to slide down the Ireland AM couch under intense questioning from co-presenters Mark Cagney and Sinead Desmond.

Cagney and Lacey play a stern ‘bad cop-bad cop’ routine that is becoming pretty effective (See Michael Martin for details) while also bringing the LOLs. To wit:

Mark Cagney: “Unfortunately, John, given what’s happened in the last four years, the public, rightly or wrongly, will not forgive you for that. They see you as part of that so you’re not going to get a chance to implement your policies…. You may very well be right that history will be kind to you but by the time history comes up with that kind verdict on your policies there may no longer be a green party.”

John Gormley: “Well, that’s not true. That is not true.”

Cagney: “You are going to get a kicking in this election. You must know that.”

Gormley: “Yeah but you misunderstand the Green Party. You don’t understand what we’re about. We are about principles. We are about values. We are not about to fold our tent. That’s not going to happen.”

Cagney: “Can I ask you, on a personal level, given the fact that you may very well be out of a job in two weeks’ time, what are you going to do?”

Gormley: “Well I could come in here and present this show. It would be an absolute doddle. I can read that [pointing at the autocue]: ‘The news is next; tensions are rising in Bahrain…’ I can read that no problem. You know? No problem.”

Meanwhile…

Director Richard Ayoade (yes, him off The IT Crowd), Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige kickstarted the Jameson International Dublin Film Festival last night at the Savoy in Dublin with the premiere of Richard’s movie Submarine.

It follows a 15-year old boy (Craig)  with two objectives: to lose his virginity to the girl of his dreams (Yasmin) before his next birthday, and to stop his mother (Sally Hawkins) from leaving his father and hooking up with a new age mystic (Paddy Considine). We’ve all been there.

It also features original songs by Alex Turner. It doesn’t really get more hipster than this.

Six of the best from B3ta’s current image challenge: Film Aftermaths.

The movie ends and the credits roll, but what happens to the world and its characters after the films we all know end?

Above, the work of b3tards, (L-R from top): Ian Ex Machina, Barbarossa, Ninj, Chumpers, Benito Vaselini and Puromycin.

They’re ushering in a new era of low taxes, stag hunting and zero tolerance towards gay marriage. Yes, they’re the Fine Gael backroom team.

They are the generals of the FG ‘war room’. They’re the guys who prevent Leo Varadkar from wearing leather on the campaign trail and they control Enda like Eugene Lambert used to control Judge.

And they simply cannot believe their luck.
