The exact time of the Summer Solstice was 6:04am when Earth’s axis was tilted most towards the Sun. Because of meteorological lag, the Summer Solstice is often considered to mark the beginning of Summer, whereas in astronomical terms the Solstice marks the middle of the season
(hence the name ‘Midsummer’s Day’). Above is an image showing the earth at 6am, just 4 minutes before the Summer Solstice.
