A Limerick A Payday

at

It’s an honour to work for the state,
And while the pay ain’t always great,
Generations have found,
Their jobs safe and sound,
And you know that the cash won’t be late.

      34,500 tweets x 140 characters / 120 words per minute touchtyping = ~7000 minutes of typing.
Over six years, that comes to one 15-second tweet every five hours.

It’s odd how much work you can do in the other four hours, fifty-nine minutes and forty-five seconds if you put your mind to it…

      :P

big deal, i’ve gone a day or two late of being paid by my job cos of bank error or a change in system. Do you want everyone to make big deals when they get paid a day late?

Does your bank make a big deal when your mortgage is a day late? Your landlord if the rent’s late? Your creche when their direct debit bounces? Your car loan payments? Your ESB or phone or gas bill? Hell, the M50 lads will happily start sending you letters for payment of twice the normal rate if the DD bounces by a day (they seem to count those letters as the notification that their payment’s gone sideways).

Oddly, you’d think you’d remember all this from the last time Ulster Bank decided that the whole “money and computers” thing was hard to do…

      THIS x 1000

Everyone is in the same boat on this one, unlike, for example, paying your own pension or being actually responsible for yourself in an environment that requires people to perform their job in order to keep it.

Are you suggesting public servants don’t pay for their pensions?
The private sector is lucky to have a towering and well informed intellect as yours.

No, because you actually sent the tweet to Broadsheet, as opposed to being ‘discovered’

So you had already read about the story when you decided to make it solely about the public sector? Nice one.

Spare a thought for the non permanent teaching staff who don’t get paid for the summer anyway!

    Somebody pay Mark, quickly…
His gun posts here give me the impression he’s not a man to be trifled with. We don’t want him going all “Falling Down” on us…

With *my* rifle? I’d have to shoot you so many times with it that you’d literally be in danger of lead poisoning. We’d be there all day. You’d get bored and wander off…
