Somebody shut this man up please. I’ve heard he’s taken to driving around in a second hand m6. Quite a feat on 20k fight fees.

  2. rotide

Is he always like that pre-fight?

Going to be a lot of egg on face if he can’t back it up. I know nothingabout anyone in his division so no idea if he has a chance or not.

McGregor has been talking himself up from day 1. He’s also been backing it up from day 1. He’ll demolish Dustin in his next fight and a title fight, which he will win, is only a matter of time so Jock might want to prepare himself for a lot more Conor in the media.

They already fought when your Da caught your Ma with my Da. My Da fked both your parents that night.

      1. Medium Sized C

I saw the pre-fight “stare down”.

I have never seen anyone look like they were about to crap themselves in a stare-down quite like Dustin did.

    1. ReproBertie

He’s a rising star, and future champion, in the UFC with a personality that the publicity people love.

      1. Jock

He’s the number ten ranked fighter in very light weight division competing in a minor sport.

          Everybody has to start somewhere.

One day, you might be taking bitter swipes at people in the New York Times.

        2. ReproBertie

He’s ranked 9th in the featherweight division. That’s the same weight class that Barry McGuigan won a boxing world title in.

He competes in a minor sport that had over 600K people watching him on 3e when he fought in a sold out O2. As expected, commercial success draws disparaging comments.

          1. barry mccarthy

Hey, not correct, McGuigan was about 20lbs lighter. Boxing Featherweight was and is much lighter than MMA. McGregor would be more akin to a boxing Welterweight so the same as Floyd Mayweather.

          2. ReproBertie

Thanks for the clarification. So McGregor is heavier than Irish boxing hero McGuigan fought and won at. I wonder what the point was in bringing his weight division into it.

    2. Mani

He’s a great success at this sport that claims to be the best mix of all martial arts yet ultimately consists of two lads in nappies grappling at each other on the ground.

      1. rotide

I know you’re joking but every time i watch UFC , i try to like it but I end up looking at two guys engaged in what for all the word looks like coitus.

I think i’ll always prefer boxing.

          1. ReproBertie

As my MMA fighting mate constantly reminds me, it’s only gay if you make eye contact.

          2. Mikeyfex

In fact, I’m with Repro on all this thread (‘cept maybe the Ma and Da bit).

He has great self belief and he’s rocketing towards the top thanks to that, his ability, and his gob. I didn’t like him at the start but the documentary on him brought me around because he thoroughly believes in himself, has the required discipline, and it’s paying off so far.

To fall would be hard for him after all his talk but let’s cross that bridge when it comes rather than willing it along.

Wish he’d take off the glasses though, that’s just rude.

    1. Rob

Somebody should do something about them. Contain them in some sort of camp maybe. So they no longer pollute the rest of society with their knackerish ways.

      1. Brian S

I’ve always thought the curragh could be put to better use tbh. Big fence/wall, give them a gold mine to fill with sick

  3. James

He does be waring de nice suits made frum de fabric!

Why did his last opponent fall over after a few mins of jumping around the ring! Total joke of a fight.

        1. ReproBertie

Compared to what? Not all fights (boxing or UFC) go the distance. Over half of Tyson’s wins were 1st round knockouts.

  4. Cloud

If he gets knocked out (or found out) eventually, so be it. But those saying “he’s going to be really embarrassed when he loses because of the way he was talking” need to cop on.

Imagine a UFC fighter going out to the press conference and saying “Not sure if I’ve got what it takes…he’s pretty fast and strong so I might lose…but I hope I win. Sure we’ll see how it goes.”

    1. ReproBertie

Did you see Brandau talking before the loss to McGregor. He prety much admitted that McGregor would dominate in striking but reckoned his (Brandau’s) ground game would carry the day. When they did go to ground McGregor owned him and there was a definite hesitancy to Brandau’s fight when they got back on their feet. He seemed to be constantly retreating until McGregor finally caught him with the body shot and that was that. I think he had lost the fight before he stepped in the ring and it was cemented in his head when McGregor proved to be more than a match on the ground.

Roy Keane gets annoyed about the “sure it’s great to be here” or “we’ll give it a lash” attitude and gets applauded when he says that Ireland should be going into every game with the belief that they can win any and everything. McGregor is the living embodiment of that idea. As he so often says, taking over, not taking part.

Ah, living in the states often requires a tweaking of your accent. If you don’t make it slightly more palatable to Americans it can hinder you.

  5. isintheair

I like Conor McGregor, I’ve had enough of the nice sport star interviews. You know people like Rory McIlroy and Roger Federer being so polite and politically correct before and after an event. McGregor just spews it out and to hell with what people think. If he was asked about the situation in Gaza he would probably say something like: those fu*king Israeli cu*ts attacking those people, netinyahoo is a Nazi steroid head.

    1. mauriac

yes,if I was advising tiger woods I would have told him to drop the fake therapy bullshit and go gangsta,” ya I fupped cocktail waitresses from Malibu to Miami, so what I’m a golfer not a preacher, kiss my multiethnic ass” .that would’ve worked.

After watching the cage fight with his buddies, Wayne felt all pumped and powerful but knew it was short-lived.

In the morning, Wayne still had to go to his powerless easily replaced low level job, talk to his loud crass girlfriend and would still be living in his shoddily built M50 belt house with oversized gold tipped gates but tiny walls. Only the rectangle of crunchy gravel made him feel posh as he parked his 07 high mileage black Range Rover with the chrome wheels. Didn’t matter that it didn’t really fit into the drive and caused the gates to bow slightly when closed.

    You know it’s true.

  7. Royal M

Fair play to him. The lad is as fit as a fiddle, has unbelievable talent, became one of the sport’s stars in a short space of time and is on very decent money (unlike the majority of MMA fighters). His personality may not endear him to everyone, but he’s smart enough to know how to stand out from the rest of the roster. Headlining an event on your third fight in the UFC and co-headlining on a pay-per-view in your fourth is a rare if not unprecedented feat.

  8. Rob

The bang of class bigotry off this thread is unbelievable. A lot of middle class people seem to love sticking the boot into those beneath them on the social ladder – when they’re among their own or hiding behind a computer. How about having a go at abusing people based on their social background directly?

    1. Banotti

A variation on the “he’d batter ye” theme. The go to response for an Irish MMA fan showing equal amounts of forced machismo and insecurity about their place in society,

      1. ReproBertie

You’re not a big fan of Irish success, are you Banotti? Having a go at the women’s rugby team and now at UFC. Does seeing others succeed make you face the reality of your own wasted talent or what’s the story?

    2. Royal M

It’s the classic Irish cocktail of class bigotry and begrudgery. He probably has more discipline and positivity in his life than any commenter here, yet keyboard warriors brand him a “knacker”, mock his accent and belittle his achievements. I’m sure he’s weeping in the penthouse suite of the MGM Grand reading these hurtful comments.

  9. Bacchus

I find the assertion that UFC isn’t a real sport hilarious. Given that the same people probably get excited about soccer or tennis. Boxing was one of the purest sports once but at this stage that description goes to MMA or UFC. Yeah McGregor has a mouth on him but he’s not dumb and he’s not a bad role model either.

  10. Vinny

Most interviews I see him do, he speaks in a half Crumlin, half American accent.

Which, believe me, is incredibly cringeworthy.
At least Pat Kenny sticks to his own accent when saying “Cool, man!” to Liam Gallagher.

I like the cut of Conor’s jib though. Even though I have no idea about UFC or will ever care for it.

  11. Squarehead

What the fup are you on about ‘rob’ in particular. Talking about people sticking the boot in because the mans a few ranks below them on the social ladder! Just because he has a broad dublin accent doesn’t mean he grew up on a coddle diet begging for money. From watching the documentary his family are anything but struggling, nice gaf, well mannered etc. peeps need to stop using this site as a platform to vent their inner anguish, knobs

    1. Rob

What I meant was that people perceive themselves as being better than those who have working class backgrounds. They hear a working class accent and think – scumbag. It’s exactly the same as when a person pre-judges someone based on skin colour, religion or sexual orientation other some other aspect of their background. I’m not saying there’s any justification for that kind of bigotry – I’m just pointing out that it’s out there, and that it colours peoples’ views on people like Conor McGregor, Robbie Keane, or anyone else not willing to hide the accent they grew up with.
