Two gardaí stand outside the home of evicted Martin and Violet Coyne, in Carpenterstown, Castleknock, Dublin, after members of the Land League entered the couple’s home this afternoon. The Land League members say they will not leave until Martin and Violet, pictured above left, are allowed back into the house.

I’m sure there are mitigating circumstances in some of these cases… But surely if you took out a mortgage and can’t or won’t pay it, you lose the property…? What is with all the militancy? It’s not that I don’t feel sorry for the people involved, I do, but you don’t get to live in your own house unless you pay for it…

Except the couple in this case did not even have a mortgage on this property. It was never their house, they were just renting and had plenty of advance notice to vacate the property.

Eh you understand they were renting the house? Renting. And they got 2 years notice! I got a four months after being in my place for ten years, RTE never turned up for me :(
