prefab

Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabra, Dublin yesterday (top) and today

Anon writes:

“This [above] is the replacement prefab at Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabra, Dublin at a rent of €30,000 per year. The school has been waiting on a new school building for 20 years. It was finally promised one in 2012. Work was due to start this summer but a relatively minor boundary dispute has held it up. In the meantime, 3rd class had their roof fall in [top]. So 30k has been spent on renting something for a year (exorbitant in itself) which should only be needed for a few months, and which shouldn’t have been needed at all.”

And the lesson is?

Homeschooling!

Don’t pay retail for prefabs?

Anyone?

Leaving aside the gouging prices and the years of waiting … In general, what is the problem with prefabs? I was in one for quite a few years through primary and secondary and didn’t notice any major improvement in comfort/education when transferring to the main school.

I guess, though there are certainly a shedload of schools out there in brick buildings that are far from modern too.

      +1

I was quite happy to be in prefabs away from the ‘main’ school for a few of my primary school years.

Doesn’t seem to be – the emphasis of 20 years for a new building; and rather than rent the prefabs they could buy them, if they weren’t waiting the long term option of the building.

Then again, the roof did fall in, so maybe prefabs are just total shit (architectural engineeringly speaking).

But that would be capital expenditure… will the Dept approve of an increase to the Capital Expenditure budget, just to stop someone gouging the taxpayer?

The tragedy of a group who has a hit before they have the talk that they really should change their terrible pub-band name.

Paddy McAloon is one of THE great songwriters imo. Granted the production on some of the early stuff hasn’t aged well but schlock it ain’t. Anyhow… Cabra Gaelscoils, you were saying…

The lesson is if you are establishing a Gaelscoil don’t let the Provos take it over and run it. Cos if you do, FF, FG and Labour will make sure the kids are left in substandard accomodation for as long as possible.

Thankfully we have a full time army with state of the art weaponry and equipment. On our tiny neutral island.

Who needs a working health system or school buildings?

I much order our army to have lovely expensive transport vehicles and armed vehicles.

    Makes sense.

    How about a hedge school?

More an béal bocht from the Gaelgoirs.

Interesting point about the Gaelscoileanna being taken over by the Shinners!
