On this day in 1984, RTÉ broadcast a report by Jim Fahy on Knock Shrine Medical Bureau.
It had been set up to establish if cures claimed in Knock, Co. Mayo, were medical or miracle.

We really have needed huge investment in Mental Health services for many many years….
To be fair to the church they have been operating a weekly creche for the mentally unfinished for years.
So right. Could you imagine these people idle and without doctrine and faith?
Murdering and blaspheming and coveting. There would be carnage.
You didn’t need to set up a medical bureau to get the answer. I could have told you for a fraction of the cost.
I see….Mad People…..
Knock one of the most brilliant cons ever effected against the gullible and the elderly (often the same)
Bit edgy there Lou.
Medical or Miracle- no pure shite option?
+1
Having faith is one thing. This ‘pilgrimages and miracles’ horlicks is quite another.
The holy water from Knock is sucked out of a puddle in the bog, where the slurry spread on the surrounding hills eventually ends up.
I recall being on a mission to obtain curative holy water (for miraculous purposes only) for some relative. I noticed all the water was beige in colour. And so to the second tap and then the third etc.
After a while I noticed all the water, in all the other peoples bottles, was beige as well.
Say what you want, but there was no ebola in those days.
Shur th’oul shitey bog water’ll be grand for curin the blindness afthur shtharin a’ the sun…
