The Bray, Co Wicklow native debuted at number 5 in the UK also this week.
Letterman, Ellen, Saturday Night Live, Taylor Swift, every little helps.
Fair play though, in fairness.

Thats unreal
Totes amazeballs. Ledge bag. Snoozier rocks.
Fair play-ole ole ole
The Craft Beer of Irish music.
Just wait till he moves his tax offshore and ye can all hate him :)
I’ve just gone straight for the hate
*doffs hipster hat, rides off on penny farthing*
After the budget surely that’s only three-ha’pence?
Touche…
Good songs but he is SOOOO boring live.
fair play in fairness.
do like that take me to church song, what about the album, is it good or would it be very samey?
Album is a great mix of songs that change tones a good bit.
Should I starting not liking him now or should I have started that a year ago?
2 years.
Minimum.
That’s him now set to be a bazillionaire…. success rocks!
highly unlikely.
Not highly.
Take me to bank… Well done young man
He’s the next Mackauley Moore.
I think he’s from Newcastle. Great news anyway!
There’s no accounting for taste.
The US Christian market, that’s a good market.
Surely the U.S. atheist market?
Christians normally don’t analyse things by default so if a song has ‘Take me to church’ that will be enough for them. Just like ‘Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance, I just want to praise you” is Christian teen anthem.
‘If its art, its not for all. And if its for all, it’s not art’ – Schoenberg
The Beatles? Ceiling of the Sistine chapel? Cheeky Girls?
Need I go on?
Doesn’t even pay tax in this country….
Fair play though in fairness.
He’s matched, in one album, what it took Oasis three albums to do. Fair play
You’re equating his debut with Be Here Now? That’s a bit cruel.
It’s a great achievement, but the Billboard was a much tougher nut when Oasis were trying to crack it. Album sales are at an all-time low now.
Fair play. The album is amazing. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a new album this much.
Good luck to him. I can’t get past the voice. Like pissing oneself. There’s the initial glow of warmth which quickly fades, to be replaced by dampness and shame.
He’s not from Bray… he’s from/lives on Church Road in Newcastle (Co Wicklow). Dunno why Bray keeps coming up in reference to his bio, perhaps it’s the next largest town or something?
Because it says it on Wikipedia.
