Nope. A spiral emanates from a central point and becomes wide, while a helix retains its width. A snails shell is an example of a spiral and a slinky is an example of a helix. Using those shape definitions with staircases isn’t that useful, because a true spiral staircase wouldn’t make sense. The terms as used with staircases depend on whether or not there is a newel in the middle for support. Helical staircases don’t have these, whereas spiral staircases do. Helical staircases also have the advantage that you can make a couple of them that share the same vertical space, which you can’t do with spiral staircases.
